Pirate's Cove: A holiday in a gated community
This is not a hotel per se, but rather a complex of flats that can be privately owned, let or time-shared (you own it for one specific week of the year). Sometimes these rental places will offer gifts like a meal on the town if you listen to their sales pitch.
It is on a private island surrounded by the Roanoke Sound. There are canals as in the photo, marinas and fishing piers for the fisherman. While it is close to downtown Manteo, it's a little inconvenient to get to the beaches at Nags Head from there. Not only would you have to pile into the car and cross the causeway, there is also the question of parking.
