by ljourneycake

Well, there's always the beach which is like 5-10 minutes drive away.
Also- the old town part is absolutely devine. Dance places, bars and delicious eats.
Try the candy shop or one of the parisian cafes for a great dinner. On a summer day, the homemade icecream is amazing.
If you're into history, there's the USS North Carolina. Very cool but very hot in summer.
Hope you have fun- I always do!

Travel Tips for Wilmington

Cape Fear Coast

by msbrandysue

Wilmington is not a popular destination but definitely more popular for the area. It's small and quiet. There are no major hotels around but more bed and breakfasts.

The Cape Fear Coast is what the area is more commonly known for. It's comprised of the Wilmington area and along the rest of the coast including the beaches and tip of North Carolina that fades into the Atlantic Ocean.

It's nice that the area has water. It's fun to sit by it and watch the big ships in the distance. They also offer a steamboat ride/tour that even has a dinner included for the evening trips. There's so much to see here. It is a small area but plan to spend a few days here!

Texas never taste so good

by spartan about Texas Steakhouse and Saloon

Southwest decor, with peanuts on the floor and lively atmosphere. It's a casual restaurant featuring American cuisine with a Tex-Mex flair at lunch and dinner. Along with the bucket of peanuts, I selected the 12 oz. Prime Rib (cooked to medium consistency) with buttontop mushrooms, bread and two Bass Ale's.

Underground Sandwich Shoppe

by acemj about Underground Sandwich Shoppe

I had a turkey/swiss on toasted rye bread that was delicious. The owner told me that he has no affiliation with London, but he just thought the name would be appropriate. Why, you ask? Check out the next photo and you'll understand.

go to the beach, gotta love...

by will2710

go to the beach, gotta love the beach: good 9 months out of the year and big enough for you to have plenty of space. You don't have to remember quarters for the parking anymore (they've got a high credit card machines for parking now)

On your way to the beach (if you go the right way) stop by Airlie (pronounced ar-lee by the locales) Gardens. Beautiful large acre garbens that are perfect for strolling through.

Also check out Screen Gem Studios. Wilmington is very popular as a filming location and you can take a tour of the studio.
