Fayetteville may stink, but the rest of NC is something to see. Wilmington Beach, Charolotte, Raliegh, Ashville are all awesome. College towns are everywhere and the majority of them are worth a look. NC is full of beautiful beaches, forests, and it has many outdoor activities.

Front Street Brewery is a good place, a little too expensive for a college kid. Down on the beach side is the Oceanic but it's expensive too. Your best bet is to go to the place that looks the dirtiest and the most run down. It's the little places that always have the best food.
This place is crowded for both lunch and dinner so I would assume it's good. A couple locals also recommended it to me, but I didn't get a chance to go. It has outdoor seating for customers to enjoy to breezes and the good people watching opportunities on Front Street.
The Bellamy Mansion Museum of History and Design Arts/ Kenan Memorial Fountain
This picture shows both the mansion and the fountain. The Bellamy Mansion is a fully restored antebellum home in the Greek/Italian Revival Style by James Post. The mansion was built by slaves between 1859-61. Dr. John Bellamy was a prominent Wilmington planter and his home also served as the Union Army's military headquarters toward the end of the American Civil War.
The Kenan Memorial Fountain was designed by Carrere and Hastings of New York, and was donated to the city by William Kenan in 1921 as a memorial to his parents.
The Henrietta III offers various cruises on the Cape Fear River, including narrated sightseeing cruises, gospel cruises, lunch/dinner cruises, wedding cruises, dance cruises, and more. The sightseeing cruise that I took was very interesting and informative. It's also a great way to see the city and its environs. Along the way, you can view the city's bustling seaport, the wild riverbanks, and special boats dredging the channel to keep it navigable.
