Name that Statue..... #1
There are a lot of these one-off statues around the Wilmington-Wrightsville area. They are all natives or long-time inhabitants who have been famous.
This statue was on Market Street, right down from the IHOP.
It is of George Davis.
He was a native Wilmingtonian who became a successful lawyer and represented the Wilmington-Weldon Railroad Company. During the U.S. Civil War, he was a senator and attorney general for the Confederate Congress under Jefferson Davis (no relation). After the War, he was captured and imprisoned (less than a year) for his war activities and finally returned to law practice in Wilmington.
So next time you are Wilmington, pay your respects to good ole George.
