The hotel was recently renovated and is very lovely. Simple, clean and comfy. The gardens and pool area were exquisite, red hybiscus and purple Mexican petunias bloomed with an unrestrained tropical glory. Giant tropical plants, neatly trimmed grassy putting greens dress up your short walk on the boardwalk from the hotel to the seashore. The beach itself is gorgeous. Wide and inviting. You can rent comfortable chaises and umbrellas from the hotel or use your own. The pool is small, but nice and when busy, I'm sure the bar between the pool does a good business with burgers and sandwiches for lunch along with tall cold drinks!
While the building is rather unattractive itself (the beach is lined with gorgeous beach homes and "cottages" interspersed with only a couple of hotels and condo buildings) the location is smack dab in the middle of the barrier island portion of Wrightsville Beach. It is the perfect location. You can arrange boat trips leaving from the docks just across the street on the harbor side. (You can also use the sandy beach of the channel to do some serious swimming without battling the surf and potential rip-tide currents on the ocean side).
