Bismarck is a very nice community. Friendly people, green atmosphere, and fresh air. The best time to visit is the summer when it is nice weather and not-so dangerous as in winter-driving. For starters I would first drive around Bismarck and the areas to get a look at the city. The Missouri River runs right through Bismarck and is a beautiful view. The calmness of the city. The day is busy but still laid back and relaxing. By night, if you stand outside all you here is the silence in the air. I always loved it when I opened up my window in the morning and the fresh air came in..I really miss that.

I just made a quick stop in Bismarck, for the purpose of visiting and exploring the State Capitol Building.
The State Capitol complex is relatively new, having been constructed in the 1930's. The building the tallest in the state of North Dakota (18 stories), and it is very functional. It was built in an Art Deco style in 1933. It's a case of function over form, because it's really not that attractive.

"Close to Canada!"
This visit to Bismarck coincided with the United Tribes International Pow Wow in Bismarck and a conference of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe's Health Dept.
After the hectic days in Buenos Aires, Argentina, it is certainly a cultural shock to arrive here. The first night in town, looking for food at 10 pm ( the time for dinner in Buenos Aires ) made me realize that I am in USA and in a remote area.
It is so lovely to see so many different Indians in town for this largest of the Pow wows.
