Travel Tips for Fargo

Packing List

by bdwoot

Nothing special 1. Summer - mosquito repellant.

2. Winter - long underwear, balaclava, gloves, wooly socks, insulated shoes, scarf, Carhartt's coat. Remember, there is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes.

Visit the Plains Art Museum.

This Museum moved from Moorhead, Minnesota, across the Red River to Fargo. The Building is really cool, and there are 3 floors of art. Plains Art Museum features many regional artists and some pretty unique modern art.

Fargo

I was born and raised in Fargo. I left Fargo to go to college and to start my career, but was fortunate enough to get a job in the area and return home.

Fargo is the largest city in North Dakota, boasting a poplulation of almost 100,000. The Fargo Metro area, consisting of Fargo, West Fargo, Moorhead, Dilworth, etc. has a population of nearly 200,000.

Fargo - Land of no relief!

by jeffwinter

"Fargo - Don't get all blown away."

Well I actually lived here for about 4 year while I was going to North Dakota State University (AKA NDSU). Fargo is a love it or hate it kinda place. And much for me had to do with the wind, or lack there of.

First of all: Fargo is flat. If you need mountains or even small hills - Stay Away!!! Because of the lack of relief; enter the wind. Winter or Summer the wind can be horrible. In the Winter an inch of snow will fall and you can have 5'-6' drifts. In the Summer you can be sandblasted by anything not attached to the ground in 40-50 mph gusts.

Now consider, it's not always like this. These are my memories. There are days (or day) that are very nice; both in Summer and Winter.

Fargo is located on the Red River and much of it sits on a red clay type base. This means there will be no skyscrapers and the yearly (Spring) flooding of the Red. I will address the flood in a future chapter.

Well I came to Fargo to go to school, so let's talk about that. I had a very good experience at NDSU. In spite of what you may be thinking, NDSU is a very culturaly diverse community. Per capita, Fargo is one of the most ethnically diverse cities in the nation. As an Anthropology major, this was appreciated.

The Fargo/Moorhead area not only has NDSU, but MSU and Concordia as well. With three colleges in close proximity the population of the area rises and falls drastically when school is in/out of session. During school, the night life is pretty good for a town of this size. There are a few key places to hit depending your style and what you are looking for. Having graduated in 96' everything I know is probably out of date!!!
