The train dropped us off at the platform around 4:30 AM and we started the four-mile walk into town with our luggage on our backs, but spotted the Hilton Garden Inn after only about a mile, and dropped off our luggage there. The guy at the front desk was really nice, locked our luggage in the closet for us, and told us we were free to check in anytime after 3 PM. The stay the next night was very comfortable, and for a price you're not likely to get in most other localities.
Unique Quality: It's not incredibly special, and somewhat far (about three miles) from the center of town, but it's near the university and quite luxurious considering the price (our room was $79+tax). The front desk (and possibly much else--I don't know) is manned by UND students, and I wonder if they might be doing it for credit instead of pay.
Directions: It's right there on the north side of Demers (the main drag)--you turn northward onto 42nd St and then take an immediate left and you're at the lobby entrance. If a freight train is crossing 42nd, you might have to wait five minutes or so while it passes.
