The Industrial Revolution comes to Ohio
Visit Cincy during Riverfest Labor Day weekend. Thousands of people on both sides of the Ohio river to watch the fireworks is a BLAST. The night the Reds, baseball team, won the world series in 1990. It was party central! With the team they have this year I'm hoping it will happen again.
There is a particular style of chili which is associated with Cincinnati. It is less "beefy" than chicago style chili, and more "soupy" than most texas style chilis, but it has a strong and very distinct flavor. in general, if you don't like strong flavors, you won't like Cincinnati chili, but if you do, you should like it. Cincinnati style chili is made with nutmeg and allspice (or so I hear) and other flaovrs, so while it is strong it isn't exactly "hot". The place everyone says to go for this is Skyline Chili and there are 20-30 of these restaurants scattered through the city. This is definitely a local thing, and their efforts to expand into other cities (Dayton and Columbus excepted) haven't been successful (like we needed another chain restaurant anyway) so you will have to come to Cincinnati to try it.
If going between December and March (inclusive), bring a down parka. Remember to pack those nail clippers, underwire bras, aerosol cans, pocket knifes, etc. in checked luggage or you'll have to give them up at airport security.
Built in 1890, this massive 4-story structure built of beautiful stone and covered by a Ludowici clay tiled roof is a great example of German Romanesque architecture created by architect Samuel Hannaford. Naturally, City Hall holds most of the city's governmental departments. Take a peek inside to see the lovely grand marble stairway, stained-art glass windows on the landings and murals painted on the ceiling.
