Travel Tips for Cincinnati

check out the Riverfront! ...

by pat110

check out the Riverfront! From Serpentine Wall to Riverboat Row on the Kentucky side of the Ohio River, there is usually something going on! This photo was taken at the Festival of Lights which is held at the Cincinnati Zoo during each Christmas season. The beautiful skyline as you drive from Greater Cincinnati airport towards home!

Church of the Steps - Mt. Adams

by BeatChick

Welcome to the Church of the Steps in Mt. Adams, otherwise known as the Holy Cross Immaculata Church. Each Good Friday before Easter the local Catholic faithful mark their devotions by climbing up the 84 steep stone steps praying the beads of the rosary all the way.

In addition to its role in the Good Friday pilgrimages, the church is also lovely architecture. You'll also find this to be one of the best spots to look out over the city & enjoy a sunrise or sunset.

Inside of the church you will find altarpieces painted by Cincinnati artist Frank Duveneck's art teacher, Johann Schmitt.

Go to a Reds Game

by TRimer

Watch the Reds play at Great American Stadium.

Cincinnati was home to America's first professional baseball team- the Cincinnati Red Stockings. Cincinnati was originally a member of the National League along with Chicago, Boston, St. Louis, Hartford, Louisville, New York and Philadelphia. They were expelled from the NL in 1880, due in part to its refusal to stop renting out their ballpark on Sundays and to cease selling beer during games. The following year, they were made part of the new American League. Then in 1889 they were granted admission back into the National League. The Reds played first on Redland Field which was renamed Crosley Field in 1934 in honor of the new team owner Powel Crosley Jr. Crosley, a radio tycoon, who had bought the team earlier in the year. In 1967, the Reds moved to the new Riverfront Stadium which was later renamed Cinergy Field. In 2003, the Reds moved to the Great American Ball Park.

Tall Stack's

by kahunayummy

75 musical acts by national, regional and local artists provided music for every taste at the Tall Stacks Music, Arts & Heritage Festival (held in October 2003). The Greater Cincinnati Tall Stacks Commission dedicated the entire five-day music festival in memory of John Hartford.

Tall Stacks was first held as part of Cincinnati's Bicentennial year in 1988. It was one of five events that took place throughout 1988 to celebrate Cincinnati's 200th birthday. Tall Stacks was by far the most popular and well attended of those five events. Because of the unique qualities of the festival, the Toronto Globe & Mail and the Chicago Tribune named Tall Stacks one of the top ten events in the world that year. The first Tall Stacks welcomed 14 riverboats and over 700,000 people to the city's riverbanks for three days in October. Tall Stacks launched a legacy of pride in Cincinnati's rich river history and rekindled the nation's love affair with the steamboat.

Alms Park

by frankcanfly

This little out of the way park is located on the East side of town. It has two great overlooks, one to view the Ohio river, and the other gives a great view of Lunken Airport.

Take Columbia Pkwy (rt 50) East from downtown. Not far after crossing Delta Ave, turn left of Tusculum Rd and climb the hill to Alms Park.
