History in Cleveland

by mtncorg about GLIDDEN HOUSE

Why do people visit Cleveland? Most come to visit downtown for either business or to attend a sporting event, maybe checking in at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at the same time. For them, many tall chain hotels are available. Cleveland is also a city long known for the cultural venues offered further east, in and around the area known at the University Circle. Museums, buildings dedicated to higher education, Severance Hall - home to the symphony - can all be found here. The best home base for all of this culture is the Glidden House. The house was built for the son of the founder of the Glidden Paint Company and that family lived here until the 1950's when it was donated to the Case Western Reserve University. Eventually, a wing of rooms of added onto the east side of the house and the whole building was turned into a boutique hotel. The carriage house was turned into Sergio's Restaurant which features a Brazilian theme. Suites are located in the old section of the house and they look nice on the internet. The rooms are more than adequate featuring large flat screen televisions. The breakfast rooms are very elegant places to start your day and tarry about over one more cup of coffee while catching up on the new in the Plain Dealer.

Oberlin / Cleveland ?

by Ripgirl2

Hi.

I've just learnt that I'll go next year in Oberlin College as a French Assistant. I'd like to know how far it is from Cleveland and if it's easy to get there bus bus or any other means. Does anybody know anything else about the town?

Thanks.

Oberlin is about 30 miles west of Cleveland. the college may have a shuttle, check their web site.
Oberlin is a quaint town located in Ohio farming countryside. The college surrounds the village square where there are shops and restuarants. It is a progressive school with a great music conservatory and art.

Don't like the weather? Wait 5 minutes... ;)

by erikatheskysailor

Since Cleveland is a Great Lakes city, the weather can change quickly and even the forecasters aren't *always* correct because it can be quite variable. So, you basically should bring clothing & outerwear/gear that will suit for differing conditions; check the forecats ahead of time; Channel 3 has the most accurate forecasts. One day the temps will may be in the 20's and the 60's F the next... Maybe a tripod, because winds can be quite whipping and make still photos slightly tricky to get. Umbrella and windbreaker. Windbreaker mainly if you'll be downtown on a known windy day; the wind is oft faster than in Chicago; umbrella because we get a fair share of rain from the Lake-Effect wx systems.

Cleveland Indians Baseball

by kdoc13

Ah Baseball, America's national pasttime. And the Indians? Well, once a joke in the minds of baseball fans, the team is often a contender and often sports some of the best young players in the game. Mix them together in a stadium without a bad seat, and ravenous fans and what do you get? You get the tribe!

Cedar Point

The most amazing amusement park in the world! I died there! After spending 8 hours on the rides, my head, feet, stomach & my back hurt so much that I could just lie down on the ground and fall asleep instantly...But, what an adventure!!
