Quick History by blaird
Moses Cleaveland was the founder of the city of Cleveland, which he first visited in 1796. He was a part of the Conneticutt Land Company that persuaded the Iroquois to give up any claim to the land. Cleaveland then encountered the Massagoes and paid them a bunch of trinkets and whiskey, and assured them they would be left alone if they gave up claim to the land. Maybe not the most ethical business deals ever done, but that is the early history.
