J. Palen House Bed and Breakfast

2708 Bridge Ave., Cleveland, Ohio, 44113, United States
  • Unfortunate experience

    by

My boyfriend and I stayed here in May 2012. The room we stayed in was as we had expected it but the service was unsatisfactory.

Different bed and breakfasts handle their breakfasts differently, and here they failed to specify how they handle it...which is you better get there on time or you will be made to feel stupid and be belittled otherwise....even if you have a reason for not being able to make it on time. In the end my boyfriend and I refused to go to breakfast if it meant we were going to be made to feel that way. It was unfortunate.

Also, they offered to give us a coupon book when we arrived for dining and site seeing in the area. They never did.

Unique Quality: The bathroom and rooms were nice, but what is the point when the keeper of the facility treats you disrespectfully.

Where to go on Cleveland visit

by travel220

My 19 son and I are traveling to Cleveland on 9/21 - 9/23 and plan to visit Cedar Point on 9/22 are looking for suggestions for where to stay and what else there is to do.

Lots to do in Cleveland. It doesn't sound like you have too much time though.
Since you're going to Cedar Point, you'll have a car, right?
Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame is a must. It's just north of Downtown on the lake. Hard to miss, really.
Just east of town is University Circle, which has several museums, a botanical gardens and some amazing parks, all within walking distance of each other. The Cultural Gardens along MLK between the circle and I-90 is also awesome.
There's also Little Italy. I'd say it's up there with the Little Italy in NYC for being authentic, but is much less touristy and laid-back (not as urban). Very good for walking around (shops and art galleries) and/or having a nice meal. It's just east of University Circle off Mayfield Road.
Coventry is also good for shopping.
For those three, you don't technically need a car because you can just ride the RTA between everything (it also goes to the airport). A day pass is like $3.
If you want to drive, you can hit Chagrin Falls to the east of the city or head down to Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Both are very cool.
Lots of other stuff in the city like Downtown itself, Ohio City.
For hotels, it's best to stay Downtown if you have no car. If you do have a car, it may be best to stay on the far western side of the city so that you won't have to cross town when you go out to Cedar Point (it's a bit of a drive).
Hope that gets you started.

Hi! Just in case you haven't checked the times for Cedar Point, be sure to visit http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/visit/schedule/index.cfm
Halloweekends is starting soon - and believe me, it's worth the wait. I had so much fun there last year!
Anyway, before I can suggest some hotels, I really need to know what your price range is. The hotels in the area that would be the most convenient for you cost upward from $100.00 per night.
I have been to Cleveland a few times, and Cedar point many times, and would love to help you (I decided to jump in since you have not yet received any responses from anyone)...please let me know if you'd like.

Cuyahoga River

by yooperprof

You'd have to fly back in time thirty years to the most famous period in the history of Cuyahoga River: pollution was so thick and heavy that the river regularly caught fire. Happily those days are long gone, and the river has become the focal point for a dining and entertainment district known as the Flats.

To pack?? What does that mean??

by Tinci

I found out that I packed to many stuff, because clothes and everything is so cheap in USA, that you do not nedd to pack anything with you. You can buy everything you need right there....
One small bag is more that enouhg to pack.
You just have to go to one of many Outlet stores or Malls and you can buy anything you need.
...... Mall in Downtown Cleveland ..... Of course you must not forget your camera!!

Cleveland National Airshow

by CoAir13

Not really a sport, but......every Labor Day weekend (first weekend in September) at Burke Lakefront Airport . There are all types of aircraft from all over the world on display. Some, you are allowed to sit in, some you are allowed to walk through. Some of the acts include a jet assisted Waco bi-plane (complete with wing-walker), triple engine jet trauck that races a jet at over 300 mph, and US jet aerobatic team. Aircraft from all branches of the US military, commercial and general aviation aircraft displays. Sunblock and water. Prices on the inside are a little outrageous. You may have to pay a small fee to sit in cock-pits for photo-ops. Parking is expensive by the airport. Park downtown or take the rapid to the North Coast stop at East 9th Street.

Hale Farm and Village

by kdoc13

If you loved Colonial Williamsburg, but can't quite get to Virginia, you will love Hale Farm and Village. It is the place where a younger kdoc learned the art of Blacksmithing from a man named Joe. Seriously though, it is a period village from the 1840's where the live and work like they did back then. The people even behave like the folks back then, I tried once to have them burn my sister at the stake for witchcraft, but she was 9 and they had stopped doing that by then.
