Travelodge: clean, cheap, sweet
Near downtown, Lake Erie & Edgewater Park a stroll away. It's clean & relatively cheap,$60.00 per night. Amenities: the staff will bring you hot chocolate at bed time and will tuck you in. They read stories to you until you fall asleep. When it's time to wake up, you are brought your choice of beverages, such as coffee or tea & they make waffles using the Travelodge waffle iron. While you're eating in bed they'll launder and press your clothes, consulting with you as to what to wear that day. They will give you new shoes. When you leave to sightsee they provide spending money, about $37.00 for "incidentals". Additionally, out of their concern for your safety and well-being they'll attach a twenty dollar bill to your underwear with a safety pin, should you have an emergency. They will use their station wagon to drive you everywhere you want to go. They will cut your hair for you and give you manicures and facials. At night, they take you square dancing and will dress you in their finest square dancing skirts. Your second night you get foot massages,w/each toe individually stroked. They sing to you, while smoothing your foreheads until you are asleep. Then they will put gloves on your hands filled with lotion so that you wake up with very soft hands. In the morning, they awaken you gently, placing warm wet tea bags on your eyes. They will run a bath for you with hot water and bubbles, and while waiting for the tub to fill they will give you a motivational speech about the power of positive thinking. As you lower yourself into the tub they will light aromatherapy candles. When you are fully submerged they will turn off the lights and fling rose petals into the water, while singing "We will. We will. Rock you." After you bathe they feed you Amish cheese omelets w/your choice of juices. The strawberry preserves are homemade. Before you leave for the day you can enjoy a chamber music concert by the renowned Cleveland Orchestra in the hotel lobby. Tipping is not obligatory, but is appreciated by the musicians.
They hire a clown to entertain you in your relaxing moments. An accordian player will follow you to your room at check-in, playing lively polka music. You are not obligated to dance, but should you it will bring a smile to the face of the accordian player.
At your time of check out the Mayor of Cleveland will arrive to give you a key to the city. If she is too busy, she will send one of her cabinet members. If that is the case, it is customary to tip the cabinet member, the amount of three dollars, in the form of quarters and dimes. The cabinet member will be very happy because then his pockets will jingle/jangle. He will skip back to work to intensify the sound. Note that I said "he". That is because all of the mayor's cabinet members are male. Please note that if the mayor herself arrives to present the key to the city DO NOT TIP HER ! That would be a grave insult and would cause her to burst into tears.

THE CLEVELAND HOSTEL: CLEVELANDS NEW HOSTEL
% cr CLEVELAND
Before leaving Niagara Falls Hostel where I had been staying, I booked a stay at this hostel ahead in my travels. I didn't know much of this Hostel as it was new and not on any of the usual Hostel sites. and was reccomended by the Hostel owner in Niagara falls.
Upon arriving I found this Hostel as described very new with helpful staff.
The location is excellent right by the bus stop for the bus to / from the city also close by is the train station within five minutes walk. Within walking distance of the Hostel there are many bars and restaurants.Lots to do without going very far..Suffice to say ...This is a great hostel.
I found The rooms here to be extremely clean. This is a well serviced Hostel with linnen and towel supplied.. The Bathrooms are immaculate and cleaned daily as are the shower areas..
The security is first class as you are issued with your own "Swipe Card" for hostel entry and room entry.
The hostel has the biggest and best serviced Kitchen and eating area that I have ever seen in a Hostel anywhere..The cooking facilities are first class with everything needed to prepare any meals..
As mentioned this is a new Hostel and is in wonderful condition. The Staff is extremely helpful and will assisted with any of my enquiries.
Across the road is a famous Cleveland landmark "The Farmers Market" and here you will find the most amazing array of food ...and is just so handy with such a great kitchen as I found everyone preparing their own food..There is also a roof top seating area..
I would not hesitate to stay at this Hostel again if I am ever in Cleveland.

Hilton Cleveland South: Hey, it's a Hilton!
Spent a night here and basically, just slept and had breakfast so I can't speak for a lot of it's other features. Bed was really comfortable and the hotel was quiet and I got a kick out of the smart-ass girl at the front desk. (After my own heart....)
However, the fruit salad on the breakfast buffet was past it's prime. And it was the only fresh fruit selection available. Bleech!

Holiday Inn Westlake, Ohio: Home of the indie Gathering
I dig being a Priority Member. Checked in quickly, got coupons for four buffet breakfasts, and a coupon for one free drink at the sunken and very busy bar. While the room was always cool, the halls and elevators were muggy, but with fuel costs being what they are, no surprise the hotel was trying to cut costs somewhere. Nice and polite staff, always very attentive. Grat location to Crocker Park!
While I never got to use the pool, it was always busy. The conference rooms were great for screening films and for taking in lectures. The bar was woefully understaffed and not ready for a festival and a wedding.

University Circle Bed & Breakfast: Poor Customer Service
On my fifth phone call to University Circle Bed and Breakfast, I gave up attempting to make a reservation and booked a room at the highly rated Brownstone Inn downtown instead. First my husband called and left a
message, which they didn't return. That night I called, a man answered, listened to my request, assumed it was two couples coming (wrong), said he was shopping and asked me to call back in the morning. In the morning, I got the same man, repeated my reservation request, he got the departure date wrong and said he was still not at the house and could I call a different number and make my reservation with the housekeeper. I made my request to her, she put me on hold and hung up on me. I called back, telling her this was my fifth phone call and that if this was how they treated potential guests, I didn't think their business would prosper. She got pretty huffy and that was that.
