I am looking for a cheap hotel near the warehouse district and am not sure where would be a good place. Any ideas would be helpful.

Re: Hotels

What's your definition of cheap?
The only hotels close to it are the ones Downtown because it's isolated from everything else. I got the Hampton on Hotwire in May for $65, but it usually runs closer to $100. You're looking at $100 and up, really.
Also, keep in mind that all those hotels charge for parking a car overnight. You can find street parking overnight for free though (at the meters) if you're comfortable with that (should be alright).

Travel Tips for Cleveland

If you go to Cleveland, you...

by Nomad_2001

If you go to Cleveland, you MUST experience the West Side Market (just west of downtown Cleveland). There you will find an abundance of fresh produce and meats, as well as great bakery items!!!

Not to far away from the West Side Market is the Great Lakes Brewing Company, a local brewery that offers Cleveland's finest original beer (of course, German beer IN GERMANY -- not the export stuff -- is still THE BEST).

Oh, yes, you must also go to a local Puerto Rican bakery that is also very near to the West Side Market: it is called Mana from Heavan. The roast pork, flan and other pastries and breads are unbelievably good: downright awesome!!! (This is one of my best kept secrets: can't be too prissy, though, since it is located in a neighborhood that has it's share of night-time bruisers.)

And if you like shopping, there is an Asian grocery store just east of downtown Cleveland on St. Clair that has a small Asian jewelry store named Angkor Jewelry that offers a great selection of high quality 18K and 24K gold jewelry for great prices. You'll NEVER find anything like the quality of this jewelry in the malls!!!

While The Flats is a great Cleveland night-time scene (as safe as a place can be in a large city outside of Japan or Singapore), you better have a big budget, because everything in The Flats is overpriced, including the parking! My best memories are ALWAYS my most private... but I must say that a romantic summer evening on the shore of Lake Erie in Cleveland's Metro Parks ranks very high on my list.

Terminal Tower (1930)

by yooperprof

The Terminal Tower is no longer the tallest building in downtown Cleveland, but it's still the most dramatic and graceful, IMHO. This classic of 1920s skyscraper design dates from an era when architects did not hesitate to use historicist detailing to make their buildings stand out on the skyline. In other words, they believed the top of a tall building should really make a point. And this structure literally comes to its point!

52 stories, topping out at 708 feet.

Bring Something Warm

by bocmaxima

Bring something warm, just in case, even if you're coming in the summer. It's surprising how long into the late Spring it stays cool at night.
If you're relying on public transit, it probably goes without saying that you should bring good walking shoes. Downtown is really fun to walk around, as is University Circle. Buy bug repellant if coming in the summer Cleveland is very photogenic and abounds with public parks and beautiful architecture. Not to even mention the lake. You may be surprised with how many pictures you take.

Cleveland Barons Hockey

by kdoc13

The Cleveland Barons are the local AHL hockey team. It may not be the NHL, but that is not a bad thing. These are tomorrow's stars, today. The scoring is usually higher than the NHL, and the action is faster. Plus, as arena's go, the Gund rocks!

Chagrin Falls

by TravelinMissy

Beauty was not the prime consideration of the founders of the Village of Chagrin Falls. They were attracted more by the clear river, with its large and small waterfalls, and the towering timbers of its virgin forests. These represented sources of power for mills, and lumber for buildings. The present serenity of the tree lined streets, well kept houses and charming shops do not suggest the beginnings as a bustling mill town. Yet Chagrin's destiny was to evolve from a manufacturing town to a peaceful residential community.

Check out the ice cream shop on top of the falls & also shop along the stores on the main street. The best place to park is in the Giant Eagle Parking lot. It's free & there's lots of spaces. Also, check out the kids playground before the falls across the street from the ice cream shop. You can feed the ducks and enjoy the calm water of the Chagrin River.
