Travel Tips for Columbus

Softball hangout...I mean heaven

by spartan

Lou Berliner Park (the nerve center for a softball-crazed city) is home to the largest softball complex in the country (women's, men's and co-ed teams all play on the park's 32 fields). Even if you're not part of an organized league, there are plenty of open fields for spontaneous pickup games.

Outside of softball, Lou Berliner Park organizes other team sporting events such as a fiercely competitive flag football league. There are team entry fees, but professional officiating is provided for most events.

For those who'd rather sit the game out, there are plenty of options available. In addition to sporting events, Lou Berliner offers a picnic area with tables and a pavilion, as well as a trail and wildlife area.

fried plantains and a velvet elvis

by Munch about Starliner Diner

This place is a low key diner-type augmented by some great kitch. Murals on the wall, velvet elvises, clocks all over the place, etc. The food is kind of a mix of diner, mexican, and cuban. Everything I've had has rocked!

Besides, where else can you munch on some fried plantains sitting under the watchful eye of Elvis. Jalapeno-Cheddar soup........mmmm

The Columbus Zoo

by jennwerner

Mothers Day 2007. DJ Mom and I headed to the zoo. THis is an amazing zoo. Everything is so well organized and most things are interactive. YOu can feed lorikeet's walk through the kangroo's, get up close and personal with a Manatee and visit the repitle house where you can see many reptiles which are near extinction. The penguins put on one heck of a show for you. They have a huge childrens play area right outside the food court. The zoo founder and keeper here is Jack Hannah.
The price of the zoo for adults is 10 bucks but if you get a membership it will save you so much money on multiple visits. Parking is 5 dollars but is included with your zoo membership. This zoo has many activities for kids and special events for the whole family. Its very clean and well kept. There is a boat ride through the oranatangs and other monkeys and a carosel that cost 1 buck per person.

Ohio Atrium and Senate Building Interior

by atufft

The Atrium was built in the modern era to provide an all-weather connection between the State House and Senate Buildings, and the architectural effect is really quite interesting. The Senate building is the newer of the two and has a Grand Stair Hall worth climbing. At the top is a stained-glass window with the Ohio State Seal.

I lived here for 15 years and i its definitely my idea of home still. I love the country festivals and fairs and the Amish country to the north and i especially miss the four seasons but im not quite ready to go back yet... i have more to see in the world!
