Any Columbus residents out there? I just virutally watched the game against UM here in St. Petersburg, Russia. A saturday night, my first free weekend of fun in PEtersburg and here I am on the net watching the footbal (american ) game. So tell, what is it like in Columbus tonight?? Waht am I missing?? fill me in!!!!

I don't know about this game, but the one where so many people rioted sure made the news this morning. What a ridiculous event!! I usually root for UM since my brother flunked out of that school.. but I lived in Cincinnati...tough decision. :-)

The riots were totally overblown. Yes there were some arrests but I was on west campus that night and didn't even know anything was going on. No one was hurt. I was in Tempe for the Fiesta Bowl but I heard that it was just a lot of horn honking and flag waving after the win. There were 52,000 fans in the 'shoe last weekend to cheer on the National Champions. This was in 10 degree weather (F).

Travel Tips for Columbus

Shopping, Dining, and Strolling

by kalowery

Columbus and surrounding areas are growing at a rapid pace. The plus side to this is that greater demand has meant fantastic shopping and even more good places to dine. It also means that one has to deal with more traffic. My favorite things to do here since we moved here to the Polaris Parkway area two years ago are:
--The Short North has a great Gallery hop, which is held the first Saturday of each month. This is a fun area in general and there is an interesting tea place I like called ZenCha.
--Polaris and Easton are great for shopping. The Polaris area is well laid out and is a nice upscale area. Additionally, shopping ranges from Saks Fifth to Target so there is something for everyone's wallet. There is also a wonderful art store called Prizm down the road from Polaris. Easton is another newer area to shop and it is particularly nice to enjoy this area when the weather is nicer. There is also a good comedy club there.
--Some of the better restaurants include Anna's (greek food near Sawmill), Gordon Biersch (eccletic dishes with an Asian flair & microbrewery located downtown), First Watch (breakfast/lunch only in Hilliard), Elevator (American dishes located downtown), Schmidt's (German food in of course, German Village), California Pizza Kitchen (Polaris, fun pizzas and great hummus) and Molly Woo's (Polaris, by Saks Fifth, Chinese Cusine).
--There are a lot of great spas around Polaris and I like Ruehle's and Selby Salon in particular. Ruehle's is known for their oxygen baths and massages.
--The Book Loft in German Village is wonderful and I enjoy this whole part of Columbus in general as it is an interesting area to walk in when the weather is nice.

A Little Bit of Germany in Columbus

by Stephen-KarenConn about Schmidt's Sausage Haus und Restaurant

Located in the heart of Columbus' "German Village," Schmidt's Sausage Haus und Restaurant has been serving authentic German dishes, and their own concoctions, since 1886. It is now operated by the fifth generation of Schmidt's. Old world decor, costumed servers and the quaint setting make it a memorable place to eat. The "Bahama Mama" is a specialty here. It is a large weiner of coarse ground beef and pork, hickory smoked and a little spicey. I had mine with a side of potato pancakes. Chocoholics will love the Fudge Pie for desert.

Taj Palace

by ColumbusGuy about Taj Palace

This restaurant features the most tasty South Indian food in town. Like so many other gems in Columbus, it is located in a strip mall. Simple and unpretensious in decor, the food is the highight. The best time to go is between 10:00 and 2:00 on Saturday and Sunday or Tuesday nights. It is at these times when the buffet is Saturday, Sunday, and Tuesday night buffet.
Vegetarian Thali- an assortment of dishes
Saag Paneer- Creamy spinich with cheese which tastes much better than it looks
Badame Kheer- creamy rice, coconut, and almond dessert

COSI center on the River side

by butterflykizzez04

This was taken of the COSI center in columbus. It used to be a high school and was refurbished for the museum.
At this time from March 12th to Sept, 2005 they are hosting an exhibit of artifacts from the TITANIC.

Veterans Memorial Plaza

by atufft

On the Northeast side of the Ohio Supreme Court Building is a tribute to Vietnam Veterans. This is a complex plaza memorial that includes meditation benches, two water fountains, and curved limestone walls inscribed with war correspondence. The statehouse history website describes the memorial's locale on the statehouse grounds as originally the site of an illegal plywood memorial erected in the night by Vietnam veterans who wanted the names of Ohio's war dead to be remembered. Expansive lawns and a fine example of a buckeye tree, Ohio's state tree, are nearby.
