Italian done wood-fired!
Figlio's is a wonderful restaurant if you like wood-fired pizzas or delicious pastas. It's a great semi-casual atmosphere with reasonably priced entrees (10 - 15$). There are two restaurants - one in Grandview and one in Upper Arlington. I prefer the one in UA because the dining room has a little bit of a less crowded feel. I would recommend the Blackened Chicken Pizza or the Shrimp and Scallop Pasta - both are excellent every time I visit. Also try the Caesar salad - I'm a conniseur of Caesar salads and this is by far the best dressing I've ever tasted.
Home cooking made funky gourmet
The cheapest and most crowded of the Cameron Mitchell restaurants, Cap City diner brings Mitchell's modern eclectic style to home-cooking favorites. Meatloaf, BLTs, Chili, Hamburgers, Mashed Potatoes are all "re-interpreted" as gourmet cuisine that will please both the gourmand and the McDonald's crowd alike. The decor is Faux-50's diner- somewhat like "Jackrabbit Slim's" from the movie "Pulp Fiction" without the cars. On weekends this place is very busy. Meatloaf. With mashed potatoes and crispy onions and a bit of fruity chutney on top this is mmm-mm good.
North Market
Shop for fresh flowers, vegetables, meats, gourmet foods, ethnic foods, and baked goods. Located in the downtown area, it is an oasis of good smells and great food. Build in 1876 and remodeled about ten years ago, this market reminds me of a smaller version of Reading Terminal Market (in Philadelphia).
Gibbon Monkey House at the Columbus Zoo
Description: The Wild Animal Rescue Foundation has been operating a sanctuary for over 10 years. The project is dedicated to the welfare and protection of gibbons, many of which have been confiscated by the Thai authorities from situations of maltreatment and abuse. The main objective is the rehabilitation and release of suitable captive animals and the provision of long-term care for gibbons that for various reasons – cannot be released back to the wild. This is the only gibbon sanctuary of its kind in Thailand.
In addition to gibbon rehabilitation, the project carries out a program of education among local communities, schools and learning centers, informing people of the importance of preserving the rainforest and the wildlife that depends on this dwindling habitat.
