I think it all depends on how soon you want to go. I recommend searching flights first, even if you take the greyhound down to Texas or somewhere first it is going to be a very long trip (and I'm pretty sure to get to Texas it goes through Florida first, or something wacky) and I don't think you will save much money. I would search using this website, I have had luck in the past with it.
www.cheapflights.com
also Skybus just recently opened in Port Columbus (the don't fly to Mexico, but can get you further south), and have good deals if you plan in advance.

Also, if you don't have a particular destination in mind in Mexico you can probably get there cheaper, I would just search for deals to Mexico.
Another idea is driving, renting a car probably would not be cheap, but a road trip if you own your own car might be fun.
Good luck,
Anita

Outdoor Art in Columbus
by deecat
I just learned that Columbus, Ohio has been heralded as one of top 10 cities for art! This is for cities of 500,000 populations at least. It's featured in the June, 2006 "American Style Magazine"
Before I read this "newsflash", I personally was impressed with the Outdoor Art Pieces in Columbus.
I.
As teachers, Jill and I were attracted to the Discovery Park sculptures. This is the 1st Park devoted specifically to honor Ohio's public educators. Jill and I belong to the Illinois State Teachers Retirement System, and we were impressed that it was the "Friends of the State Teachers Retirement System of Ohio (80th anniversary celebration)" that funded this project. "The park has the names of thousands of former and current STRS Ohio members who have helped others DISCOVER the joys and the value of learning."
But, the highlight of this display is the wonderful outdoor sculpture of children climbing with the supervision of teachers. The kids are climbing among the numbers and letters we teach them in America's public schools. II.
At 140 Town Center in conjunction with the Ohio Police and Fire Pension Fund, another outdoor art display exists. It's the "Ohio Police & Fire Memorial Park" that "honors the memory of the heroes who serve and protect the citizens of Ohio."
The park and monument honors the commitment, heroism, and ultimate sacrifice of these men and women. It was commissioned in 2003 by the Ohio Police and Fire Pension Fund with many other benefactos who are listed.
The Sculpture depics and fireman and a policeman with a small child. Nearby is a park setting with flowers and benches as well as trees. It's quite a memorial.
These are just two examples of the wonderful art in Columbus, Ohio
Good food
by buggs_moran about Salvi's Bistro
We had a very good meal here. The service was great and we sat outside. We has the Bistro Appetizer Platter and the Salmon Salad. Both were good. The platter had three great and one so so items. The Salvi Speciale, Bisto Fondue and Mushroom caps are definitely worth trying. We ordered the salmon salad with a chardonnay dressing, the only thing it was missing was acid (we used lemons). The Bistro Platter, wish we had time to try more...
Like Chipotle but with Pasta!
by AnitaCarrie about Pesto Creative Italian Bistro
Quaint and modern, this restaurant is perfect for that lunch date. With the concept (which you get to pick choice # then Pizza Pasta Salad) it reminds me a lot about Chipotle. And anyone who knows me knows I am all about burritos the size of your head... Well the pasta here is great much better than Fazoli's because it is made-to-order but about just as quick. Don't forget about the gelatto!!! The Chicken Alfredo... with Italian gelatto!!!
Zooveniers in the Zoo-African Aviary
by abi_maha
We love Aviaries and this one in particular was so fantastic! Myriad colored birds all flying freely as we stood watching them. one thing I don't understand is how so many people just flit by an aviary??!! What do they see in 2 mins that we spend hours doing?! If you truly want to see all the birds in this aviary my advice is atleast spend half an hour in the arena, all the birds will fly by you atleast once :D And that is truly an awesome experience as we found out!
The Wexner Center for the Arts
by ColumbusGuy
Architect Peter Eismann, known for confounding clients with buildings whose form is more important than their function, pulled out all the stops when he designed the Wexner Center for the Contemporary Arts. Intended as a vehicle for the arts that evolved as the arts evolved, it forever looks half completed. Entrances are in odd locations. There are doors and stairways go nowhere. Practically no two lines are parallel. The art exhibitions here are as 'contemporary' as any seen in Soho or L.A. Recent ones include an exhibition on contemporary industrial and product design which included a maze of several thousand toothbrushes hung from the ceiling, and a show which brought an entire 'skateboard park' indoors and invited local skateboarders to give it a run. The Wex draws musicians and performers from all corners of the globe. This week, I plan to see the Icelandic group, 'Mum'. Just two days before, a group of legendary Senegalese peformed played to rave reviews.
Not beholden to commercial concerns, the Wexner Center is at liberty to feature whatever films seem interesting to their savvy curators. At any given time, the Wexner Center is liable to be in the middle of one or more 'Film Series'' devoted to the works of a particular director or from a exciting new film culture. I have great memories of a series of Iranian films a few years ago.
The center's jam-packed, eclectic bookstore will delight any Deconstructionist or fan of contemporary art.
