Dayton- Locations

by tony250

What is Main and Northwood considered ? is that north or Westside?

Re: Dayton- Locations

by t_guy

I would consider that area a north dayton neigborhood not west side. I live south of Dayton and don't get up to that area often so I'm not real familiar with it. I do know that there is a nice bikeway from the Wegerzyn garden center to downtown dayton and south to Franklin.

Travel Tips for Dayton

All flightpaths leave Dayton

by Anton_Ernst

In 2003, but especially the month of July, celebrations and events marking the 100th year of powered flight took place in and around Dayton, Ohio.
Wilbur and Orville Wright dreamt and developed their Wright B Flyer in Dayton, with their crowning achievement occurring on North Carolina's Outer Banks on Dec. 17, 1903.
The Wright brothers grew up in Dayton and operated their bicycle shop and printing press on Third Street.
In commemoration of the Wrights' centennial, the 2003 Dayton International Air Show was a four-day affair (July 17-20). It included the U.S. Navy's Blue Angels, the USAF's Thunderbirds and Canada's Snowbirds flying teams.
Also numerous historical sites, such as their home, bicycle shop and testing areas were either updated or created in the area to help tourists get a feel of the brothers' work.

www.airshowdayton.com Fireworks along the RiverWalk on the 4th of July is one of the more fun events.

Dayton's Hometown Baseball Team

The Dayton Dragons are fun to watch. Going to the stadium (which is pretty new) is fun for a group of friends or the family. I personally prefer the lawn seating, which costs about $5.

It's great for kids, because there's a mascot named Heater and he's pretty cool with the kids. :-) The great thing about minor league baseball is that you can get the excitement of a baseball game without the huge impersonal crowds you get at major-league games.

Of course, there is plenty of Dragons merchandise for the fans.

Carillion Historical Park. The Park is a 65-acre outdoor museum with 23 exhibit buildings and structures, and is the site of the 57-bell Deeds Carillon, Ohio's largest. The highlight of the collections is the 1905 Wright Flyer III, the world's first practical airplane, and a National Historic Landmark. The airplane and Wright Hall are components of the Dayton Aviation Heritage National Historical Park.

Independent downtown coffeehouse

by yooperprof about Terra Cotta Cafe

The Terra Cotta Cafe is a pleasant little downtown coffee house and cafe, popular with students at the nearby University of Dayton. Good bakery items in the morning. It's just down the street from the Doubletree.

Dayton Art Institute

by Voyageuse30

I wouldn't necessarily call this museum a must-see, but it is a nice, albeit small, art museum. You are bound to recognize a painting or two if you're an art follower.

The special exhibits are a must see. Not too long ago, the exhibits were on Ansel Adams and Monet.

Free admission; some special exhibits may charge an entrance fee.

There is a cafe and a museum store.
