KENYON INN: The only place to stay in Gambier

by mtncorg

Kenyon Inn is 'it' when you are looking for a place to stay in Gambier. Comfortable rooms, AAA discounts, use of both the college gym and swim center come along with a four star restaurant. A very nice place to simply relax and watch the World walk by on the Middle Path.

HIRAM INN: History and Solitude

by mtncorg

Featuring 12 rooms in a building that dates back to 1824, the Hiram Inn is located on the south end of the Hiram College campus. The rooms are named after early prominent residents of Hiram. Breakfast and evening cocktails are included in the tariff. A very restful place to stay when visiting the college or area.

GLIDDEN HOUSE: History in Cleveland

by mtncorg

Why do people visit Cleveland? Most come to visit downtown for either business or to attend a sporting event, maybe checking in at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at the same time. For them, many tall chain hotels are available. Cleveland is also a city long known for the cultural venues offered further east, in and around the area known at the University Circle. Museums, buildings dedicated to higher education, Severance Hall - home to the symphony - can all be found here. The best home base for all of this culture is the Glidden House. The house was built for the son of the founder of the Glidden Paint Company and that family lived here until the 1950's when it was donated to the Case Western Reserve University. Eventually, a wing of rooms of added onto the east side of the house and the whole building was turned into a boutique hotel. The carriage house was turned into Sergio's Restaurant which features a Brazilian theme. Suites are located in the old section of the house and they look nice on the internet. The rooms are more than adequate featuring large flat screen televisions. The breakfast rooms are very elegant places to start your day and tarry about over one more cup of coffee while catching up on the new in the Plain Dealer.

Howard Johnson Motor Inn: This place was strange!

by Bwana_Brown

The end of our second day of driving from New Brunswick found us on the eastern outskirts of Toledo, Ohio so we decided to stay in a Howard Johnson motel that tourism literature we had picked up said was offering rooms for $35 per night. Sure enough, as we came to the intersection of I-280 and I-80/90, we could see their big sign sticking up!

This area is at a major transportation crossroads - south of Detroit and Ontario, east of Chicago and west of Cleveland/New York - so it was no surprise that there were off-ramps and roads going in every direction. It seems that, over the years, the road building has left this motel surrounded on all sides and I've never seen so many tractor-trailer rigs in my life. After winding our way to the motel on a dead-end road that had been cut off by a major highway, we could see that this motel was now geared toward truckers, hence the cheap rate of US$39 we ended up paying. It has a fantastic indoor pool and a separately operated restaurant on the premises but we were content to order some simple sandwiches to eat in our room. The sound-proofing must be good, because we were not bothered by noise at all during the night. Considering what we paid, we had nothing to complain about as we set off again in the the morning!

Kerr House: Wellness Spa

by gjensen

Rejuvenate the body, mind, and spirit at the Kerr House, wellness spa, which is located along the banks of a winding river in Grand Rapids, Ohio. The Kerr House is a grand Victorian mansion, full of antiques, relaxing treatments, massage, healing touch, and yoga. From when the caring and health-smart staff awakens you in the morning with breakfast-in-bed to the dinnertime entertainment, every sense is stimulated and wellness prevails. Spa cuisine was delicious and unusual, designed to help to speed up my middle age metabolism, and nourish my body. Yoga classes for this beginner were paced to my level of ability. Educational CD ROM's and books were available, so I could take home this great new way to keep my body young. Staff from the gardener to the yoga master were delightful, helpful and compassionate. They made this week's journey into one's inner self for healing the beginning of a new, more healthy lifestyle. I even lost 5 lbs!

Be sure to walk down the hill from Kerr House to Grand Rapid's downtown, and visit the many small shops. Meander or jog down the paths along the river for a great nature experience, with water fowl and other wildlife enjoying the nearby dam. I highly recommend the Kerr House!

Victoria Manor Bed & Breakfast: Chillicothe Accommodations

by msaardvark

A wonderful experience. Kathryn and Michael have a beautiful 150 year old "mansion" on approximately two acres which was once owned by some notables of Chillicothe. They take great care to make you feel at home and Kathryn cooks up a nice breakfast each morning.
I originally planned to stay only 3 days and then move a bit further south but stayed the whole 7 days I was in OH because the hospitality was so special.

The favorite gathering place for guests is the front porch and the gazebo in the back. The grounds are well kept and with fountains and benches in many nooks and cranies so you can relax with a variety of views. WiFi access and fast Internet connections. Their dog is adorable and friendly (but not a nuisance) and kept me from missing my pups at home!

Apple Valley Resort: Beautiful, Convenient Location For a Resort

by deecat

Apple Valley Resort is located about 50 miles northeast of Columbus, Ohio. Its mailing address is Howard, Ohio, but it is in a very rural location among the rolling hills of the area.

The resort has an 18-hole PGA-rated golf course; there is a basketball, volley ball, horseshoes, and shuffleboard areas. There is also a lake nearby. They have daily planned activities, which is great for families. We did not participate in any of them because we were far too busy.

A US $100 deposit is taken at check-in, but if there are no problems or destruction, then that deposit is not billed to you. NO PETS ARE ALLOWED

It is located within an hour's drive of the famous Longaberger Basket Factory. In addition, it's a central location for exploring the heartland of the Amish countrside where you are able to learn about the Amish and Mennonites. There are plenty of craft shops, cheese shops, quilt shops, as well as great restaurants.

The nearest major airport is the Port Columbus Airport (approximately 50 miles away).

Perhaps the most unique characteristic of this particular time share is the Spa Room (yes, a complete room that looks out on the woods behind.) This room has a large hot tub for the guest's use.

Apple Valley Resort: Central Location While Vacationing in Amish Ohio

by deecat

We stayed for 7 days in a time share at Apple Valley Resort in Howard, Ohio.
My husband and I own a time share in Mexico, and we usually trade it in each year. We had to use the 2004 year by May of this year; thus, my friend Jill Martin and I found that there was an opening (which is rare) at this resort.

It's the perfect location for what we wanted to do. It was a 2 bedroom/2 bath place with a large living room, large kitchen, and a separate spa room off the master bedroom. It also had a large deck off the kitchen that looked out on a lovely wooded area.

The living room had a large-screened TV; the kitchen had a dishwasher, garbage disposal, and a washer and dryer.

We were able to cook dinner and prepare breakfast on most days.

It certainly saved us a great deal of money.

We enjoyed the peaceful, rural setting very much. The deck was quite a treat for relaxation. We both love rabbits, and were pleased to see several munching on the lawn.

There was a beautiful golf course, a huge lake, a nice clubhouse, a playground, and a lovely, natural setting.

Fortunately, the week that we chose to travel, all the trees were in bloom, which was an added bonus.

The four extra photographs show the inside of the time share
