My best friend and our daughters recently stayed at this resort. We had to laugh when we approached the resort as the beautiful Great Wolf Lodge is now directly across the street. The Kings Island Resort looks quite dumpy compared to it. However, the Kings Island Resort is cheap at about $100 per night for two double beds. The rooms were okay and clean but despite the renovations it is still quite dated.
The outdoor pool was closed for our June weekend trip. The indoor pool was open but after spending a hot day at the park sitting inside pool side was not very refreshing, although the kids didn't mind. Once again the pool facility is quite dated and there is no snack bar or bar.
The bus transportation is a nice perk but not enough to convince us to stay the second night! We moved across the street to the Great Wold Lodge for our second night. For $89 more we felt this was luxurious and plan to return there for our next "girls trip weekend".
If you simply need a bed to sleep in while having fun at Kings Island than the Kings Island Resort is the way to go. If you have younger children and like the conveniences of Starbucks, elevators, Indoor water park, several food choices, go with the Great Wolf Lodge!
Pros: Cheap, bus service to Kings Island
Cons: Outdated, no elevators, limited food choices, conference crowd feel
Thank Goodness Great Wolf Lodge is Coming!

After staying here for 3 years in a row, this will be our last time. Our main reason for selecting this hotel was for the free interent access. After checking in, which went smoothly, we tried logging on to the net. Well, our complex did not have the internet connection yet. The ads state they have this available, but they don't say which rooms have it. We tried switching rooms, but of course they had none available.
Another thing, the rooms were really noisy. We stayed in the H complex, and had a ground level room. The room above us sounded like it was going to fall in with every step the occupants took. It creaked almost all night long. I thought our bed was hard too.
Other than that, the pool was great. They had a security officer come on duty at 8 each night we were there to keep the older kids under control. This hotel has a shuttle to the park, which is a great amenity and it runs all day every 15 minutes. They have 2 restaurants/bar on premise, but we didn't eat at either one this time. If I remember right, the bar/restuarant was ok but the other restaurant served a continental breakfast with eggs, bacon etc. which wasn't very good.
We are really glad to see Great Wolf Lodge is being built across the street (where the campground used to be) and should be opened by November/December.
Beware of this hotel

I had planned our trip for weeks as I am a very through person and wanted a stress free fun weekend with my family. When we arrived late that evening after a 3hr. drive with 5 children one of them 3yrs old, we were tired and needless to say ready to get out . I had talked several times to a certain clerk about my room rate ( so many times that the clerk knew my voice when I called.) When I arrived the rate was double what was quoted to me . I spoke with the supervisor who was having about three other problems with guests and I could tell she was well trained how to rip people off. They would not comprise nor in any way compensate for the miscommunication of there staff. We reluctantly paid ( knowing that on the weekend we probably couln't find another room and none were in sight anywhere.) The rooms smelled musty and had dirty carpet, stained uncomfortable couches, clogged toilet, chunkes out of the dresser, hard bedding, water pressure for the shower was pitiful. I will give credit where credit is due, we loved the shuttle bus and the drivers were wonderful and very informative. The pizzaria was very nice and courteous. I would never stay at this poor excuse for a resort again . If you want a nice stay I do not recommend it.
New and Clean

My husband, daughter, and myself stayed one night at the hotel in August. I have no complaints whatsoever.
Our room was newly redone and very clean. I dislike hotels in general, and I am extremely picky, but when we opened the door to our room I was very impressed. New flooring, new wallpaper, new furniture, new bedspreads. Very nice! I even felt safe enough to take off my shoes! The shower massager was great on the back after walking all day!
I have to admit that I was hesitant after reading some reviews on here, but the hotel was really very nice in every way. Maybe they're remodeling, and the yucky rooms are the ones that just haven't been done yet? I dunno, but ours was great. Might be a good idea to ask for one of the "new" rooms if you make a reservation(?). Guess we got lucky.
We had a yummy, complete breakfast at the in-house restaurant the next morning--less than $20 for the three of us.
The shuttle buses save enough in parking fees, and offer enough convenience (they run back and forth all day, and let you off near the entrance gate) to beat the competitors' rates.
We'll be back next summer!
Pleasantly Surprised

This is a great place to go with kids off-season (when Kings Island park is not open) - not crowded at all on Spring Break week. Get one of the remodeled rooms in Buildings A, B or C - we were in room 205 in Bldg A which had 2 Queens and a great view of the outdoor pool, playground and grounds - the room was a typical hotel room, but adequate for us...
This is the first hotel in a WHILE that actually had a WARM indoor pool and the hot tub temp was also perfect... add the game rooms and workout room and our boys had a blast. We will be back.
