Family Cabins: Family life
If the hotel experience is too 'public' for your tastes or you have kids who need space to run, try the family cabins. They're located south and east of the Nature Center. Anywhere from 1/2 mile to 3/4 miles from the State Park Lodge. The 'small' cabins sleep 4 down and 2 up, although we only put 2 up and 3 down. Downstairs is a room with a double bed and a room with 2 bunks (up and down). Upstairs is a single room (wall comes out from the wall with a bed on each side. The kitchen, living room and bathroom are on the 1st floor. If the weather's bad, it can be a bit tight. There are two screened in porches that offer fresh air and room to spread out is warm weather. Of course, there's the great outdoors all around.
The 'large' cabins are 4 down and 4 up. The only difference is that upstairs there are supposed to be 2 rooms with 2 beds each. We've never stayed in the large cabin, so we're not really sure. From the outside, they look the same size.
Unique Quality: Each cabin has a charcoal grill and picnic table outside. Some overlook the golf course and the others are set up along the woods (wetlands). There's plenty of room between cabins. A few are connected by a boardwalk, so that larger groups can rent 2 cabins and have them 'linked'. The area is quiet and traffic is minimal and slow. The kids have plenty of room to play in the grass.
