Stayed in a "suite efficiency". The room is basically two double beds, a hida-bed, and has a microwave and small refrigerator. It is not divided into totwo rooms. It was pretty clean, so I'd describe it as decent. We had a family of four.
Unique Quality: It's kind of at the main crossroads, so there's not much to do within walking distance. Some rooms do overlook a pond.
Hi, me and my husband, together with 15 year old daughter will be travelling to Chicago from the UK in August. We will spend 3-4 days in Chicago, then looking for a nice resort hotel anywhere in the States that flies to a nearby airport from Chicago.
Places that we have enjoyed so far are Hilton Head, Fort Lauderdale, San Diego and Santa Monica. Please give suggestions of resorts or hotels in similar places to this. We like a lively hotel with things to do locally and will probably hire a car. A nice pool and beachfront location would be ideal.

The area by Sandusky/Catawba Island/Marblehead/etc in Ohio, along the lakeshore, is very lovely. :)

You might have to charter flights to these airports; they don't noramlly accomodate large volumes of commercial flights. :)
Are you looking for something in the Chicago area? Just north of Chicago into Wisconsin is Lake Geneva--definitely not like Switzerland but a nice town in southern Wisconsin that you can drive to from O'Hare. Try the Abbey. You can do any internet search for spots there. Also, west of Chicago on the Iowa border is Eagle Ridge--golf, great dining, very picturesque. Eagle Ridge Resort. Depends on where you'll be going. In August you want to go north--it'll be warm with a good amount of humidity.
thanks for all the advice so far. These resorts do look amazing, but not quite what we are looking for. Prefer more a resort on a beach and can be anywhere in the States, as long as we can fly there from Chicago. Also, we are not really into playing golf. Would prefer a hotel with a beautiful pool with easy access to the beach, and not too far away from shops and movie theatres etc.
