Travel Tips for Yellow Springs

Yellow Springs - Stuck in the 70's and Loving It

by WheninRome

"The Town's Namesake - A Yellow Spring"

The actual "Yellow Spring" is located in the Glen Helen Nature Preserve. This spring used to be utilized for soaking and other medicinal purposes and there was a hotel nearby to accommodate those interested in a relaxing and healing soak in the spring.

"Great Food"

My wife and I loved the original, family-owned and operated restaurants that dominate Yellow Springs. Come to think of it, I didn't see a McDonalds or Wendys anywhere in town, though there was 1 Subway.

The 2 restaurants we enjoyed most were the Winds Cafe and Ye Olde Trail Tavern. There were 3 to 4 other nice looking establishments in town that we didn't have a chance to get to. Ya Ya Pizza is also supposed to be very good - next time.

There is also some good street food by way of a guy that grills BBQ in a parking lot along the main drag.

"Eclectic Shops"

There are numerous eclectic shops throughout the town. There are several shops with Asian merchandise (i.e. Tibetan prayer flags and Tibetan clothes, incense, etc...), a couple used book stores, a couple boutique beer and wine stores, record store and even a glasswares store. There are several others that I cannot even remember or didn't visit.

The natural areas outside of the town are worth visiting by themselves.

Where artists live, where writers meet!

by joiwatani

"To publish my children's stories..."

Yellow Springs! This small town visited by hundreds of writers, artists, painters, poets, novelists, illustrators every year! It is a town where writers love to host their yearly seminar-workshops!

"More murals on the street buildings!"

The town streets are beautifully painted by artists. I am not sure if these murals were painted by local artists or not, but, I know that the paintings are beautifully done! It is so awesome to see these on the streets!

"Not enough wall!"

More murals on the streets! This one is interesting!

Full of Free Spirits and Open Minds

Yellow Springs is located east of Dayton, north of Xenia and south of Springfield, Ohio. My exposure to this town is limited, but it is most well known for Antioch College, a very liberal institution. The main street, US Route 68, is lined with small shops (toys, clothing, jewelry) and restaurants/ cafes. It is a dynamic setting with very colorful people adding a refreshing and exciting element to the scene.

Free spirited Yellow Springs

by debrannan

Free spirited Yellow Springs is a great day trip from Columbus and a short distance from Dayton. A town of about 4,000 residents and home of Antioch College, surrounded by state parks. Take a stroll down the main drag take in a cup of coffee with the locals and check out the organic markets.

Yellow Springs is a small village that contains very beautiful John Bryan State Park and Antioch College, a small liberal arts college (with quite some stress on the word 'liberal').

In addition, a twice yearly 'street fair', where local and travelling vendors set up booths to sell arts and crafts, boosts the economy with an influx of tourists from Ohio and surrounding states.
