We don't usually stay at nice hotels, but the kids insisted they wanted to go swimming..so we found a hotel with a nice pool. It was definitely more expensive than the average sort of place we stay at but very nice. Compared to ...camping , which is what we usually do, this was downright luxury:-)
Good breakfast too!
Hotel would not honor reservation at AAA price. When pressed, manager/owner agreed to reserve room at highest end of AAA range. When I got there, not only did the owner claim to have no record of the reservation but he again would not honor the AAA rate. When I protested, he refused to rent me a room at any rate and called the police if I would not leave! Bad vibes, bad consumer ethics.
This is a good basic American motel type facility. It is only a couple of years old, so is bright, clean and cheerful. The rooms are a little larger than some and are quite good.
They have a nice small pool. You can also rent their large "Grand Room" for receptions, etc. We attended a wedding reception there and it was quite nice. They also serve a "continental" breakfast which consists of juice, coffee, waffles and somewhat mediocre muffins.
As American motels go, this one is pretty good. The rooms are good size and clean. The breakfast is a cut above some in that you can get a hot meal if you like (eggs, pancakes, etc.).
It has a nice indoor pool with patio seating around it.
We slept in the back of our pickup truck at some mall in some town! I can't remember the names any more but the accomodations were just fine. And the price was right.
I have found that Holiday Inn Express provides excellent accommodations at a very reasonable price. They also have the advantage of being quite common in many parts of the US. Consequently, I sought out one of these locations when we had reached our first day driving destination. It was a Saturday night but there was no problem regarding the lack of a reservation.
Clean, comfortable and reasonably priced. We paid US$88 including tax.

my advice is just find a chain hotel. most are reasonably priced so this shouldnt be a problem. I am from here so i have never stayed in a hotel here.
