The barn swallows are among the most ingenious birds - they can build nests that seem to defy gravity. The ones here have nested en masse above the entrance to the Visitor's Center at the Wichita Mountain Wildlife Refuge. Seeing them here oblivious to the human traffic was a bonus for me. The visitor center is well worth a visit for some of the history of the area and the refuge. There are lovely and informative displays and "hands on" exhibits for the kids - art, sculpture and taxidermy. They have photo exhibits which change monthly and a nice little bookstore with tons of info on the area and other wildlife issues. It is free and open Mon-Fri 8:00-4:30. Easiest access is from I-44 just north of Lawton. Take exit 45 (Hwy 49) and go west about 10 miles into the refuge.
