Travel Tips for Oklahoma City

Cowboys. . .

by mrclay2000

Will Rogers, one of Oklahoma's most favored sons, was present and even presiding during the unveiling of this bronze sculpture by Constance Warren, whose works also stand in Paris and New York. On May 30, 1930, this tribute to the "romantic riders of the range" made its first appearance before state officials and local citizens, and was made possible by solicitations from Justice Albert C. Hunt of the Oklahoma State Supreme Court.

Served over ice with cocktail sauce and lemon.

All Mexican! Refried beans, guacamole, sour cream, tomatoes, chives, Cheddar and Monterey Jack cheeses and your choice of spicy beef or chicken. Served with a large basket of tortilla chips and salsa.
This is so good!

Mixed greens tossed in vinaigrette with black olives, tomato and crumbled Feta cheese. Topped with red onion, cucumber, egg and a green bell pepper ring.

Everything is good!

Under the Golden Dome

by mrclay2000

The CityChurch (built downtown in 1910) is unique among Oklahoma City churches, with its white facade, heavy entablature and gilded central dome. Two smaller cupolas flank the main feature, and though these illumine at night, the lighting on the central dome is meager at best. By day, the corinthian capitals and the stately front staircase glow with the brightness of the noonday sun, making this prominent structure stand out in all its original glory. The interior unfortunately is strictly functional, and in no way complements the outward appearance.

Oklahoma City Looks Oh So Pretty?

by richiecdisc

“Oklahoma City looks oh so pretty” Nat King Cole sang in “Route 66” and that was all I knew of the Oklahoma state capitol until some deranged minds decided that their discontent should be taken out on about a thousand innocent people. If nothing else, it showed that Americans can be just as good a terrorist as our more routinely feared enemies. Prior to that, the fair citizens of the pretty city were branded ultra conservative when they not only banned the German film, “The Tin Drum” as child pornography but sent their local police out to private homes to confiscate copies. I guess on such a flat horizon, people have to make their own molehills. The city has built a moving monument to the atrocity which should not be missed but driving to and away, I tried to keep Nat's more complimentary description more in mind. It didn't seem particularly apropos but neither did the idea that someone would blow a building up with people in it.

Oklahoma City is a convenient stop when driving across country with a few nice sights and ample places to grab a bite to eat and a drink. Oklahoma was my last of the 50 United States that I've been to. It was bittersweet as I had done most of the other ones in my old Honda Civic which I had to finally give up when it passed the 250,000 mile mark.
