Where to stay?

by skeetre

Hello,

I'm planning a trip to OKC and, at this point, think I want to stay in the downtown area. My desire is to be close enough to walk or ride the trolley to most of the sights downtown. It looks as though the Westin is the only motel/hotel that services that area. Are there some options to the Westin? Ideally, I'd have one with an Airport Shuttle and nice breakfast or restaurant on-site. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Brian

From the Airport to the WESTIN:

The hotel is 10 miles (approximately 15 minutes) from Will Rogers World Airport.

Airport Express is available outside the center doors of the baggage claim area. No reservations are necessary; vans leave the airport every 8 minutes. To the Westin Oklahoma City, the cost is $10 for the first passenger, $2 for additional passengers of the same party. Vans accommodate up to seven passengers.

Other Downtown Accomodations:

Renaissance Oklahoma City Convention Center Hotel (no information on Airport Shuttle Service)

The newest hotel in OKC. An atrium style hotel with 311 guest rooms. The hotel is located at the corner of Sheridan and Broadway Avenue in the heart of downtown Oklahoma City. A glass-enclosed skywalk connects directly to the Cox Convention Center. The hotel is within walking distance from the Ford arena, the Ballpark, and many local attractions, including Bricktown, the fastest growing entertainment district in the southwest.

Visit Remington Park, North on I-35 to N.E.50th and turn left. If you love to gamble, the horses are running. Also, it is next to Lincoln Park Zoo. Firemen's Museum, Softball Hall of fame and close to Cowboy Hall of Fame which is North on MLK to 63rd and turn left. Classen High School and their museum 17th & Classen, the world's largest alumni membership association.

Greatness on the Gridiron

by mrclay2000

Every fall in the Oklahoma City suburb of Norman, tens of thousands flock to town for the five or six home football games at Owen Field. Always a football powerhouse, the Oklahoma Sooners have enjoyed a tradition for excellence unmatched by most Division I schools in the country. Looking for an excuse to throw an orange? Come to a game versus Kansas State or Nebraska. Looking for an excuse to cheer out excess energy? Come to the season opener against a non-conference stand-in. Looking for a place to wet your whistle after the game (or worse, during halftime)? Go to O'Connells.

Varsity Sports Grill

by Triple_D about Varsity Sports Grill

A lot like Chili's or Bennigan's but has local charm.
Sports bar atmosphere and it will be packed when there are big US sporting events - particularly if it involves the Univeristy of Oklahoma Sooners or the Dallas Cowboys.

Tribute to Indians of Oklahoma

by basstbn

Oklahoma was designated as Indian Territory until 1898, and did not become a state in the union until 1907. This stylized, contemporary sculpture on the grounds of the capitol building pays tribute to the numbers of tribes who called this land their home, as well as the thousands who still live in the state.

168 Empty Chairs Illumined

by mrclay2000

Along with the perimeter structures and the Gates of Time, the 168 empty chairs glow in a surreal if not heavenly light. The effects of all ambient light on the reflecting pool is something not to be missed with any nocturnal visit to Oklahoma City. In the background center, you can plainly see the light blue illuminated edge of St Anthony's Hospital, one of many area hospitals under code black on April 19, 1995.
