Travel Tips for Oklahoma City

...and Indians

by mrclay2000

Though Oklahoma boasts more Indians than any other state, it was not until 1989 that this monument to our Indian history and heritage was erected as a counterpoise to the rearing cowboy on the opposite side of the front stairs. Entitled "As Long As the Waters Flow," by Allan Haozous, the sculpture represents a Chiracahua Apache woman, a tribe in a vast minority in this state (and not one of the so-called "Five Civilized Tribes" in the majority, the Creeks, Cherokees, Choctaws, Chickasaws and Seminoles.)

Oklahoma City's largest airport is Will Rogers World Airport.

Public vans are on site to meet all scheduled flights and transport incoming passengers. To arrange for pickup from home, business or hotel, reservations must be made prior to departure. .
Rates vary depending on distance travelled.
Information on rates and reservations can be obtained by calling each company directly.

The State Capitol Building

by basstbn

The capitol's dome can be seen throughout much of the city. Until the year 2002, that was not the case, as the dome was not added until that time. The building, its grounds, and the surrounding government buildings are well cared for. Soon to be unveiled will be a new Oklahoma History Center, across the street from the capitol building.

Crystal Bridge in Myriad Botanical Gardens

by rexvaughan

This "bridge" is actually a 224 foot glass tube over a lake in the Myriad Gardens. It is home to lots of exotic plants like anthurium, orchids, agave, various palms and euphorbia. This is the fourth or fifth botanical garden I have visited this year so was a little jaded in my outlook. However, this one is quite nice and features a 35 foot waterfall which you can walk behind. There is also a "skywalk" which allows you to get a bird's eye view before walking the floor of the garden.

Admission: $6 adults, $5 seniors & students, $3 children 4-12 years.

Remembering Victims of the Oklahoma City Bombing

by jumpingnorman

"Remembering victims of the Oklahoma bombing"

This is a very sad site,
a memorial created for the victims
of the bombing by a domestic terrorist
on April 15, 1995,
the very first major terrorist attack on US soil.

There were 168 lives lost and over 800 people injured.
Chairs in the memorial park represented adults
and children (19 smaller chairs) who died.
Children were mostly from the day care that was open
at the time of the bombing.
This time 9:01 is immortalized on one large gate
and another gate shows 9:03,
sandwiching a pool which represents
the long moment of the blast.

God Bless Their Souls and Families.
