Urban Renewal
by mrclay2000
The skylines of most cities no longer feature the architectural touches known to urban skylines a century ago. In many instances the skyscrapers are mere monoliths of steel and glass, lacking character and style in their functional dullness. Though Oklahoma City has its share of rectangular towers (our tallest building the BankOne tower being one), Leadership Square and others offer a suitable and elegant compromise between the flourish of carved stone and the functional straightforwardness of the modern highrise.
State Capitol Building - The Guardian
by mrclay2000
Before it was raised to the top of the dome, the 17-foot statue of an Indian brave called "the Guardian" stood on the lawn of the capitol for a single day only (before the crane hoisted it away). Now almost inaccessible by lens or camera from its permanent home, the large original has a smaller copy available for closer inspection in the capitol hallways below.
Great BBQ
by msbrandysue about County Line BBQ
County Line has a country, diner, cook-out feel. It is very laid back and have always enjoyed the food. You can come here for a laid back date, after a ball game, or with a big group, and find it meets your needs.
Taken from their website: Set in old 30's "speakeasy", this classic deco structure has a great view of the downtown lights in the distance. Structural highlights include curved glass brick, a curved ceiling & sweeping curved bar. Just two minutes from the Cowboy Hall of Fame. Open for Lunch & Dinner 7 days a week.
Picture coming soon... They have a turkey dish that comes with black pepper on it. It was fantastic. The best BBQ turkey plate I've ever had. I can't get anything other than that! Also, their beef brisket and sausage are fantastic.
Memorial
by el_ruso
This is built on the site of the government building that was blown up by a crazy sick guy, called McVeigh.
It is surprisingly creative and solemn - not an expected plaque or statue. It is in fact very impressive.
State Capitol Building - Night Lights
by mrclay2000
Every capital city in the United States has a state capitol building, as frankcanfly can readily testify. Along with its other "capital" buildings, most cities dress their state capitols in theatrical lighting after sundown. Superb and imposing by day, the structure is even more artistic at night.
