Visit - now in February

by hughbt

Hello all

Thank you for your advice on my last posting. I have checked out Tulsa members pages now and have an idea of some of the things I want to do when I get to Tulsa. I'm now coming February 12th - 18th approx.

I am looking for any good cheap suggestions for accomodation. I am on a scholarship and have to scrape my way around Tulsa - any hostels or small boarding houses?

I tried the journalplus thing on someone elses response but couldnt find it.

Thank you

Hugh

Hugh,

I'm not aware of any hostels or boarding houses. The Downtown Tulsa YMCA (918-583-9622, ask for Bruce) rents private rooms (with shared baths) for $68 a week (plus refundable $20 key deposit). There may be some "characters" in residence and I wouldn't wander around outside in that area at night too much, but my unerstanding is that the accomodations are safe and clean. If you won't have a car, the Tulsa Transit bus station is about two blocks away and you can get around town fairly easily with that.

I have no idea if they have any programs but you might also try contacting the Unitversity of Tulsa (800-331-3050) or Oral Robert University (800-678-8876) and seeing if they have any accomodations for visiting students.

Good luck. Let me know if I can answer any questions.

Travel Tips for Tulsa

Skyline for the Future

by mrclay2000

Though dotted in so many places with old hotels, Tulsa's skyline is essentially modern. New construction and progressive vision mean that downtown's newest members will be interesting, vibrant and sometimes even futuristic. Of the latter type, only our grandchildren can know them as traditional, while we ourselves can deem the present monoliths the eye-pleasing essentials to a modern skyline.

We saw a guy having a birthday treat from the skimply dressed waitresses, tight red shorts and tiny white tee shirts !!!!

Woolaroc - near enough and worth your while

by BixB

Like the Philbrook and Gilcrease Museums, Woolaroc is another outstanding legacy from the area's oil-fortune past. Woolaroc is located about 40 miles northwest of Tulsa, but is such a unique and wonderful attraction that it qualifies as a "must-see" for any Tulsa visitor with the time to make the short trip. Once the country retreat of oilman Frank Phillips, Woolaroc encompasses a museum filled with of an eclectic but fascinating blend of Natural History, Art, and Americana; two outdoor "living history" areas; Phillip's historic lodge; and a 3700-acre wildlife preserve with free-roaming bison, elk, deer, and long-horn cattle. Woolaroc is a very child-friendly destination, and the annual "Kidsfest" in late June is a particularly good time to go.
