Ashland Hills Windmill Inn, Ashland, OR - Reviews and Hotel Information

Whenever we're driving Interstate 5, we always make it a point to arrange our itinerary so we stop at the Windmill Inn in the pleasant college town of Ashland, home to the renowned Oregon Shakespeare Festival.

The Windmill Inn is extremely pet-friendly, and is surrounded by acres of open fields where a dog can run to his heart's content after (or before) a day of being confined in the car.

Humans fare well here too. The rooms are large and nicely furnished with desk and chair, breakfast table and chairs, recliner chair. Extra pillows are provided and there are plenty of good-sized towels. The bathroom is large and has two sinks, one just outside the bath, which is very convenient for two people. Room amenities include iron, ironing board, hair dryer, microwave and refrigerator (but, oddly, no coffee machine, although there is 24 hour tea and coffee service in the lobby).

Amenities include tennis courts, outdoor swimming pool (seasonal), whirlpool spa, business center, fitness center, guest laundry facilities, loaner bicycles, airport shuttle.

The included breakfast is significantly better than most and includes make your own waffles, yogurt, hard boiled eggs, cheese, oatmeal, fresh fruit including pears, plus the usual options of dry cereal, baked goods and juices. A more modest version of the breakfast can be delivered to the room, along with a newspaper.

When we were last there (November 2005) we paid an astonishing $59.50 double, plus tax, although I'm sure rates are significantly higher when the Shakespeare festival is running.

There are also Windmill Inns in Roseburg and Medford, Oregon (as well as three more in Arizona). All Windmill Inns are 100% non-smoking (outdoor smoking area provided).

AAA rated three diamonds. Highly recommended.
