Hideaway inn & Norblad hotel...same establishment

I have reviewed other establishments with great pleasure.
This is not one of them.

I stayed at this hotel/hostel, as it is listed, for about 2 months. It is now called The Norblad Hotel. Available for nightly, weekly and monthly reservation/ rental.

It offers private rooms with bath, euro style rooms, as well as dorm rooms. There is one share kitchen and two share toilet and shower rooms. It is a vintage building.

It is under renovation. The remodel of restrooms are complete and are much more pleasing than prior. However, the share shower stalls do not have safety rails. There is no refuse bin, which often leads to soap wrappers, shampoo bottles, tissue, cloths and fecal/bodily fluids left on floors. Also, it does not seem efficient. As the water takes, at least, 10 minutes to reach a tepid temperature. The share toilet rooms are newly painted. Unfortunately, its been noted on numerous occasions in which the toilets were unusable, due to SEVERE guest uncleanliness and disregard. I have not used the share kitchen. My only opinion is one would prefer to use kitchenware that is clean by hands of occupants that do not leave restrooms in such unsanitary conditions. The two managers do clean daily and dispell the odors of urine, sick and dog. There are a few remodeled rooms that are the only redeeming quailty to this establishment. Very simplistic, minimal meets cabin. Ikea furnishings, large windows and wood floors.

It was communicated to me, by manager, that there are to be no pets, no smoking as well as a zero drug policy. As these had been areas of concerns in the past. It was also explained, by manager, that the former management and tenants had been vacated due to the heavy drug, law inforcement and emergency service interactions.

During the course of my holiday I have been approached, almost daily, for substances. Guests have been blatent in their use and exchanges. When brought to the managers attention, they issued memos. To no resolve, it continues to occur. With regard to cigarette smoke, there is absolute no compliance to state law. Often you will find many outside the establishment door. Likewise, inside the building permeates tobacco. As well as the marijuana. It should be noted that management accepts people to occupy rooms that are part of the government medical licenseing. Although I'm quite certain they have physician/ perscriptive actions as with any medical
treatment. So as to negate the rational of guests approaching other guests.

There have been frequent noise disturbances. Instances of domestic violence as well as a general absence to observe rules of hotel/ hostel. Being as it is a hotel/ hostel, it is a source for lively interaction and communication. However, as with any accomodation (star rating is circumstantial) one would observe the guidlines in order to procure occupancy, I.e., observing quiet hours, refrain from inappropriate/off-color comments to other patrons and complying with federal laws. One would also expect management to uphold and ABIDE by these same rules. Not only to ensure the satisfaction and security of patrons, but the integrity of the business itself. In my experience management has been a part of the issues presented. They do not comply with the rules in which they present.

There has been attempts to contact owners, so as to make formal complaint. However, management informed me they address all issues. In fact, management have not addressed issues and have retaliated and use bullying techniques.

I would NOT stay at The Norblad again. I would NOT recommend The Norblad. I would hope owners seek management that enhance the business their renovating; not drag it down like a slum complex.

BBB, housing authority and law inforcement were contacted respectively.

I have read reviews of Hideaway Inn & Hostel/ Norblad Hotel on tripAdvisor and hostelz.com. I urge anyone wanting to stay to read prior to making reservation. Reviews hold up to present date. Hostelz.com lists them as closed. They are Norblad Hotel now, but management is the same (as told by manager, Kayln K.)

Unique Quality: The remodeled rooms are very clean, compared to the rest of rooms in establishment.
