Be prepared for cool weather almost any day of the year. Mornings can be cool (I was there in July and it was in the 30's), but it warms up nicely by afternoon. Do NOT forget your camera! So much to take pictures of- mountains, wildlife, & streams.
This is what is called a Cinder Cone. It is a type of small volcano. It is inactive & has been for a long time, but I always liked going up there. This really isn't anything too special, but, I always enjoyed the view. On a clear day you can see Mt. Hood & even Mt. Rainer sometimes.
Just south of Bend, is a well kept secret..Newberry Crater Volcanic Nat'l Monument...Great visitor center..awesome hiking trails...i love lava flow places...something primal about them..this park is uncrowded, clean and awesome.
