Along the banks of the Deschutes River
Don't say your from California. Don't get too dressed up for anything unless you know what your'e doing (i.e. invitation or occasion requires it). DO NOT speed through Terrebonne (hwy 97) or anywhere else if you can help it.
A classic 8.8 mile round trip will take you from the Green Lakes Trailhead on the Cascade Lakes Highway - 4.4 miles past Mt Bachelor - to the beautiful alpine basin of Green Lakes. The trail follows along the west and then the east side of Fall Creek whihc emanates out of the main Green Lake. You pass several waterfalls in the first sections of the trail and then a huge flow of lava towers along the west banks of the creek for the last couple of miles. The areas around the lakes are gorgeous with South Sister rising high on the west; Broken Top on the east.
Everyone we talked to told us to eat at the Pine Tavern. They were right the best food and a very pleasant place to sit and watch the Deschutes River pass-by. This is an older building in a boutique area of town near a park. There is a trail along the river for walking, biking or as I saw rollar skating.
This is the park like setting next to the Pine Tavern. Great place to watch people, ducks and swans.
