Riverhouse Resort (3075 Highway 97 ): Our New Favorite Hotel in Bend

I wanted to say bravo to the Riverhouse Resort in Bend, Oregon because it was such a surprise. We normally stay at “another” hotel in Bend, but this time they were sold out and we picked The Riverhouse, frankly because it was available and within our budget. Of course it was still close to Mt. Bachelor and within walking distance of downtown Bend where we love the shops and restaurants.

They surely have a few converts now. Our Family Ski vacation was so relaxing due to the friendly staff and warm comfortable surroundings. It helped to have a 2 Bedroom suite with a fireplace and beds that we melted into at the end of a long day skiing. Our mornings were fabulous as they started off with a free Hot Full breakfast buffet that was actually Hot and tasted great. How many times have we depended on the “free breakfasts” at a hotel just to be met with cold cereal, stale breads and fruit that is less than fresh? This was superb and really got us energized and jazzed up for our day of skiing.

The Riverhouse is newly renovated from what we were told, and we thought they did a great job. The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful and the place was clean. We highly recommend The Riverhouse in Bend, Oregon. It is a great value and you won’t be disappointed.

Sunriver Resort: A Conde Nast Favorite (as well as a mine)

Actually located 17 miles south of Bend in Sunriver, Oregon, this resort is a spectacular year-round destination. The massive grounds boast miles of hiking, walking and biking trails popular during the summer months. A variety of lodging options are available for any group number or budget, including hotel rooms at the lodge, condos and individual cabins. It's the closest resort to Mt. Bachelor ski resort and features a less-traveled route to the mountain. Pools and hot tubs as well as an ice skating rink are open all winter. The summer months feature a roller rink and bicycle rentals in addition to horseback riding and more activities. The resort is completely self-sufficent housing several restaurants, a gas station, grocery store, ski rentals, shopping and a full-service spa. Great for couples or families, Sunriver Resort is a personal favorite anytime of year. We booked a huge condo (could easily sleep 8-10) through the resort's website during peak season (between Christmas and New Years) for a steal. Upon arrival we added an extra night onto our stay (that online jumped in price by $100) for the cheaper price we were already paying a night. ($139 a night total - not per person!)

Tennis, horseback riding, biking, hiking, nature center, spa, pools, roller / ice rink, shopping center, grocery store, gas station, restaurants, golf, cross country and downhill skiing, fly fishing, rafting, kids club, fitness classes, canoeing & kayaking, ropes course.

Depending on how much you want...

Depending on how much you want to spend. There are motels like Super 8, Best Western, and Motel 6. There is a hostel that is on Century Drive on the way to Mt. Bachelor. If you are looking for first class try the River House, or one of the many golf course motels or condos we have in Bend. During the summer just grab a sleeping bag and a tent if you like and find a nice spot in the Mountains or by the Deschutes River.
Average price in Bend is $35-$150 depending on where you wish to stay. There are plenty of inexpensive motels around.
