More about Surfsand Resort
Great Food With Views of Haystack Rock
The Wayfarer is located at the Surfsand Resort in the gorgeous coastal town of Cannon Beach. The dining room is spacious and the best views of Haystack Rock can be seen from the tables in the back of the restaurant. It's worth the wait to request one of these tables.
We have dined here a few times and it's always good. The Wild King Salmon Entree is very good and they have a nice innovative list of salads, also. We enjoyed the one with the sliced pears and feta cheese.
The dining room can be noisy at times as this is a family-oriented hotel. The service is also very good here. The Wild King Salmon, Clam Chowder, Pasta, all desserts
Great spot for families with young kids...POOL IS PERFECT
Just returned from two nights at Cannon Beach. Our first stay at Surfsand Resort. Awesome from start to finish.
I wanted to be sure to post about the pool area because I know it's tough finding places with great pools. This is a perfect one!!! The area where the steps are has a 4 inch and 6 inch approach...then the steps are 3.5 feet, with the rest of the pool being 4-5 feet. We were there for hours and the hot tub is a decent size too!
Amazing staff, front desk, room attendants, everyone!!!
Great views from our ocean front king suite. A bit small for our family of 4 but for two nights it is totally fine. 3 flat screen, m/w, fridge, coffee/maker, robes for adults and kids too. A welcome kit for our little dog, bed, treats, waste bags, bowls. Very nice touches!!!
The day we left there was a gentleman putting out chairs and umbrellas for anyone wanting a spot on the beach in front of the hotel. Very cool!
We walked to the coffee house at the end of the street, had clam chowder at Wayfarer...all walking distance and "just right".
Don't have a bad thing to say about our stay. Enjoy!
Beautiful view, inviting accommodations
My family and I stayed at the SurfSand Resort on the beach in Cannon Beach and couldn't have been happier! We were pleasantly surprised and impressed at everything the resort had to offer.
The room we stayed in was just above the beach level deck. We had a beautiful, unobstructed view of Haystock Rock and every night we were there, we watched with sunglasses on, from the living room and the balcony as the sun set beyond the Oregon coast.
We sat on the deck and read as the sun rose and watched all day long as beachgoers from all over flew kites, played fetch with their pets, built sand monstrosities and played with their children.
The resort's newly renovated rooms are beautiful. Very modern and very welcoming. Dark woods and marble throughout!
A warm fireplace added to the ambiance. A microwave and mini refrigerator were helpful amenities. A flat screen TV in every room made coming in from the Oregon coast chill in the evenings enjoyable for everyone.
The hotel offers so many complimentary services. In the summer, hot dog bbq's on Sunday evenings on the deck, beach chairs, umbrellas and beach toys, plus for a small fee, they'll even tend a campfire with s’mores for you on the sand in the evenings. DVD library, complimentary internet access and the indoor pool were some of the other offerings we took advantage of as well.
Our resort was bustling with children and pets everywhere which really added to the fun! Yet, the resort was still very quiet and relaxing.
I'm sure there is so much more to this resort than we were able to discover. All in all, it was the perfect setting for such a wonderful destination!
Great place, great new rooms!
My husband and I stayed at the Surfsand for 2 nights in May of '07. The weather was perfect, and we so wish we could have stayed longer! At the time, we paid $179/nt. for 2 nights.
The room we stayed in was one of the newer king suites on the second floor, facing the ocean. It was well decorated (important to me-I'm a designer), spacious, and clean. The baths and the kitchenette both featured granite counters, and there were plasma TV's in the LR, BR, and the bathroom near the toilet (!). There were nice bath products (Temple Spa) for the bath, and a huge walk-in glass shower, as well as a 7-foot soaking tub that we used every night. The bed was comfortable, althought it would have been nice to have somewhere in the BR to hang clothes, not just the hall/cleaning closet. The lobby was very well decorated as well, with fresh fruit and cookies available. We LOVE the Aqua creations lights behind the front desk-wish they could put them in every room!!
We had a nice view of haystack rock, only partly obstructed by the hallmark (?) next door, and a great view of the mountains off to the north west as well. We had perfect weather, and the balcony was nice to have in the evenings and early mornings.
Restaurants are expensive ($25-30 for 2 for breakfast), but Gower Street is well worth it. We might check out a beach villa rental or their attached hotel for next time, it looked much nicer than on their website.
All in all, a very nice stay, and we would definitely go back!
My wife and I booked this hotel because we wanted to be right on the beach and were not disappointed. We had the Beachfront Eye-Level King Guest Room. "Eye-level" means your view is at about knee-level to anyone standing on the connected deck. Yes, we could see Haystack Rock from our room - if you're standing and no one puts a chair directly in your view. This was not a problem for us since we spend very little non-sleep time in a room. The bed was very comfortable, the huge shower fun and fireplace, television (2), refrigerator and other ammenities nice extras. As advertised, the Beachfront rooms are directly on the beach. The next door restaurant has great breakfasts. We loved the place and would definitely stay here again - in an upper-floor room.
great beach hotel!
We found the Surfsand through the Cannon Beach Chamber of Commerce. What a delight! We visited in the first week of November, well after the rush of summer, but a delightful time for fall colors and SUN on the oregon coast. Our check in was very efficient, the general manager greeted us and informed us of room choices. He also indicated a bit of construction, but assured us we would be fine; also offered to have a valet assist us with our luggage, which we declined.
Our room was a standard King bed, overlooking the beach - it had great views of Haystack and a small balcony with chairs: all very clean and dust free! Recent redecorating of rooms means flat screen TV's in both the guest room and the bathroom, giant soaking tubs and glass walled separate showers and modern, marble/wood vanities. The beds are plush with triple sheeting and (Hooray!) no bedspeads: Double sheeting act as duvets for the down comforters and we loved the clean aspect of hotels that are mindful of this! There is also a library of DVD's to borrow as this is a family geared hotel.
We had dinner at the Wayfarer Restaurant (part of the complex) and were happy with rib eye steaks, a simple salad of arugula and hazelnuts and cheese (a bit overdressed) and a dessert of Chocolate Souffle..nothing amiss, but nothing to write home about...
It seems that this is a wonderful place for families: no blown expectations, no suprises, unless you count the GREAT STYLE and grown up feel that this place exudes - being a mom and dad doesn't mean you are trapped to stay at washandwear hotels...try the SURFSAND and be happy!
Modern resort right on beach - but worth the $$?
As other reviews describe, this is a full service resort with large, modern rooms - 3 LCD tv's in beachfront suite and gas fireplace. Huge bathroom with granite and large soaking tub that looks out on the water. Great view of haystack, literally on the ocean; walk to everything. Great fitness room (TV's on each cardio machine) and inside pool area. The onsite restaurant is superb.
I paid $265 per night at dead of winter (this included my dog and taxes) - just don't know if its worth it - this room is about $450 in the summer - maybe I've been to Cannon Beach too many times so am over it a little - you're first time visiting, a room like this is great. If you have the money, its a nice splurge.
There are plenty of smaller resorts/motels less 100 yards away across the street for 1/2 price or less (and I think there are smaller rooms without a view at this property). Though its great that this immaculate property is very pet and family friendly - its that reason it wouldn't be my first thought for a romantic hotel. During one afternoon when it rained we could hear the kids next door playing for over an hour - like they were sitting in our living room.
Love the Surfsand - we got married here!
The Surfsand is right on the beach, very close to Haystack rock. It's about a 10-15 minute walk from the Surfsand to the main shopping/restaurant area in Cannon Beach, though there are also some restaurants right next to the Surfsand. Right across the street there's an amazing glass-blowing shop - make sure to catch one of their free demonstrations!
What sets this hotel apart:
1. This is one of the very few hotels in Cannon Beach that allows dogs (on the first floor only I think). Cannon Beach is a great place to bring your dog as the beach and town are very dog-friendly.
2. This area of the beach is very wide and slightly less crowded than the part of the beach closer to town.
3. The ballroom is very nice (as far as I know this is the only decent ballroom for a wedding reception in Cannon Beach).
Things this hotel isn't the absolute best for:
1. Being right in town. It's a 10-15 minute walk (or two minute drive).
Rooms we've stayed in:
Ocean View King (top floor): Great luxury room with a beach view. We really enjoyed our private deck, fireplace, jacuzzi tub and kitchenette. Everything was very clean.
Bottom Floor Room: This room was very clean and comfortable. Wouldn't call it luxury, but we didn't pay a luxury price either. One thing to know is that the bottom floor rooms' windows are at ground level. It was great to still have an ocean view even if the bottom of the window was just a few inches above the sand. This is a room that allows pets, and it didn't show any signs of it. It was clean and smelled great.
Now for anyone who might be considering a wedding here:
This is the best place to get married in Cannon Beach! First of all, this is the only indoor space for a reception that doesn't seem like a meeting facility (I checked all of them). We got married out on the beach and then had our reception in the ballroom. The ballroom has a small deck that our guests enjoyed.
The Surfsand staff was very helpful. They delivered welcome baskets to our guests' rooms and lit a beach bonfire for our group the night before the wedding. The servers and bartender were very professional. The catering was done by the Surfsand's restaurant, and we were very happy with the results - not overly fancy, and everything was presented well and tasted great. All of our guests stayed at the Surfsand and everyone was happy with their rooms.
We were very happy with this hotel. The staff was wonderful and even agreed to move our room (for the same price) to a larger room. Dog friendly, quiet and clean. We will stay here next time we go!
