More about The Ocean Lodge

Great Location, No Privacy

by TripAdvisor Member Cawater

What a fabulous location on a gorgeous beach! The Ocean Lodge is a nice property BUT all the decks and porches are shared. So you will have enforced communal living with the people next door (and their kids and pets: lots of barking dogs here). We had people plopping down for a picnic right in front of our sliding glass doors. The decor and amenities are all very nice - not outstanding in general - but certainly among the best on the proletariat Oregon coast. Good continental breakfast is included.

Perfection!!

The Ocean Lodge was hands down the best Hotel/Lodge we've ever stayed at ~ and 5 star is the norm, not the exception for us.

Location ~ right on the beach, view of Haystack Rock. Need I say more. Room, very enjoyable (not huge, but they never are in such primo locations). But what really made my stay was the Service. Everyone was SO NICE and helpful. We were there for a wedding, and a large number of us ended up staying at the Ocean Lodge. We could have driven them crazy with all our needs and wants. But all the employees there never strayed from being nice, welcoming and helpful with everything from firewood for a big bonfire for all of us (& many of our friends that stayed at OTHER hotels) to Crazy Glue when the Bride broke a nail (that poor guy had to chase us up and down the hotel to find us as we were gathering people to head over to the wedding).

And it wasn't just us they were being nice to. Everyone there was treated like royalty. And our neighbors were so nice too, all that niceness rubbed off!!

I see some people think the price is a little steep ~ Cannon Beach is EXPENSIVE. This hotel is very comparable, and in my opinion the best value for the location/view/niceness of hotel, etc. I do agree with some of the other reviews about the shared decks. We loved our experience with that, but I could see if you didn't get nice/considerate neighbors, your stay might not be as perfect. Get a room on the second or third floor. They have private balconies, and technically a better view.

p.s. don't forget to head up for the free morning Continental Breakfast. They have everything you could want, including good coffee (I'm from Seattle ~ good coffee is required). But don't eat there. They provide trays ~ fill it up, take it back to your deck overlooking the water, and enjoy breakfast in style!!

The Best!

My husband & I planned a very romantic weekend in Victoria, BC for our 1st anniversary - that fell through at the last minute - and we never made it into Canada.

So, we grabbed a guide and started calling places. The Stephanie Inn had one room for a night - facing the parking lot. Not quite what we were hoping for - so we called the Ocean Lodge. Holy cats! We scored a great deal!!!

The gentleman was soooo nice! We got a room with an "obstructed view" - if you can really call a perfect view of Haystack rock obstructed! We loved it!

The room isn't huge - but it has the feeling of being much larger due to the vaulted ceilings and windows! We had a gas fireplace, little kitchen area, and an awesome bathroom!!! The jacuzzi tub was huge!

Everything is decorated in bright - yet warm - tones! The bed was very comfortable! They have free movies to borrow - and what a list! We had a very nice flat screen TV.

Mostly, it was the little touches; a book that listed instructions about everything in the room, a history of the hotel, and help with where to go in town; Cottonelle TP (important to us girls :-); a shelf in the shower stall to place your things and room to move; a dial for heated air to blow across your feet in the bathroom; dimmer light above the jacuzzi; top notch food & coffee for breakfast!

The place is not cheap, but it is worth the money for the service and atmosphere. You can tell the owners have put a lot of thought into creating a unique hotel. We hope to return again in the near future!!!

Loved it but pricey...

My husband, 2 year old son, 4 month old daughter, and myself spent four nights at the lodge recently and loved it! This was our first trip to Cannon Beach and researched several hotels that were family friendly and on the beach. We were told that this was the place but the prices made us look elsewhere before deciding. After arriving there we were so glad we did! You don't get marble showers or a 5 star on site restaurant but what you get is impeccable service and a fabulous location steps from the sand. Each room has a balcony (yes, you're close to your neighbors but what's wrong with being friendly?) with a 20 foot grassy yard then about 15 steps to the sand. The other hotels frequently were much steeper walks to the beach or weren't on the beach at all! The room was nice, not luxurious, but nice with a cozy fireplace, a small kitchenette, and plenty of space for our family. The continental breakfast was much better than most places we've stayed and there were always freshly baked cookies in the lobby! They had a large DVD selection including several kids movies that were free. This is a pet friendly place so there was always a furry friend to pet. I would highly recommend this for families or those traveling with pets!

An ocean gem

Super location. Comfortable rooms. Pleasant and helpful staff. Plenty of fun shops and restaurants in town which has ample parking space and can also be reached by free township shuttle. Only small drawback: Absence of hot food at breakfast. I can't wait to stay there again.
