Known Best as Shopping Center
While Clackamas used to have a small commercial downtown area, that has completely disappeared. The construction of Interstate 205 moved the commercial center, and furthermore eliminated and changed the nature of Clackamas. The construction of the Clackamas Town Center shopping mall pretty much forced the issue: that became the hub of activity for Clackamas.
There are a few nice spots in Clackamas, but I really would not recommend this location to anyone visiting Oregon. Everything that is here you can find elsewhere, in far more interesting locations. There are several hotels, but I would not suggest these. They are too far from Portland and other real tourist destinations. They are close to the Interstate if you are desperate, but really the Oxford Suites in Gladstone at least provides some scenery.
The Clackamas Town Center Mall does provide a little diversion and interest, if you happen to be on I-205 and need a rest stop. There is a movie theatre, and a small indoor amusement park is undergoing development. About the only store of any real interest to tourists here is Made in Oregon, but even their store here isn't the best in the chain. You would be better off going to Lloyd Center if you really want to go to one of their stores.
