    Get what you pay for???

    by

    Single room, one queen bed.
The bed felt like a slab, pillows were flat, towels would be small for a barbie doll. The guy at the front desk looked as if he had just been paroled. That is what we get for going cheap.

Unique Quality: Close to downtown and the river.

Directions: down town next to river

Travel Tips for Corvallis

Eccentricities of a Small University Town

by glabah

Being in a small university town (that is, a small city where the population of the local university competes with that of the population of the rest of the city) has some interesting features.

Also consider that Oregon State University has an extensive engineering program.

Considering these things, it should not be too surprising that there are some eccentric and unusual items that happen from time to time.

Those eccentric and unusual items sometimes manifest themselves as tangible objects rather than events: witness this 5 person amphibious paddle boat car, powered by those inside by cranking the pedals.

Sometimes these eccentric and unusual objects come to Corvallis and just stop by for a visit, or sometimes they are actual products of those who live, work, or (most of the time) study in Corvallis.

Take a hike to Proxy Falls

by avanutria

Proxy falls is a lovely hiking destination, especially for people who don't normally hike and can't do really intense trails. It's a nice day trip - car required to get to the trailhead - and a wonderful photo spot. It can be a pretty popular destination though, so try to pick a non-peak time to check it out.

Directions: Along Highway #242, 8.9 miles east of junction with Highway #126 (or about 28 miles west of Sisters along Highway #242). Park along the side of the road at the marked trail for Proxy Falls.

The valley town of Corvallis

by avanutria

I lived in Corvallis for six months in 2000, and it was a lovely little town. Set in a valley, you could see mountains and hills all the way around.

An hour's drive to the west is the seaside town of Newport, home of the Oregon Coast Aquarium as well as many seaside shops and restaurants. It's a lovely place to take a day trip - especially if you love sea otters like I do!

talesfromnik's Corvallis, Oregon page

by talesfromnik

Currently a town of around 50,000 people, Corvallis is approaching city size. The population estimate seems to vary a lot depending on whether the students are counted.

I lived in and around Corvallis for most of my life -- until 1999 and visit still to see old friends. Corvallis is a 'college town' with both Oregon State University and Linn-Benton Community College in residence. Along with Hewlett Packard and the government, these are the largest employers.

There is an unusual amount of ART in Corvallis for its size. Gallery walks used to be held on Thursdays and there is a very nice art center near the central park.
