Walk the Beach
Heceta (ha-see'-ta) Beach is located about three miles north of town and stretches for about three more miles from the North Jetty of the Siuslaw (sigh-oo'-slaw) River to the cliffs of Cape Mountain. The beach is broken by Sutton Creek about a mile and half north of the jetty. North of the creek the beach is called Baker Beach and is a popular horse riding area.
You can access the beach either at the North Jetty or drive a bit farther north to Driftwood Shores Resort where there is a small county park with restrooms and carparks.
Mrs. B and I like to take a couple dogs with us on flexy leashes and let them run to their heart's content. And they love it so much. We usually walk up to the creek and back and by then everyone is tired out, sandy and most likely windburned or wet or both. To be sure we need to dust out the dog crates when we get home as the dogs attract sand like iron to magnets.
You can take a lunch break at Driftwood Shore's restaurant which serves a pretty standard beach menu of local seafood and burgers. And the view is pretty good, too.
