It's always a roll of the dice when it comes to weather.
A good rule of thumb is that it has a similar pattern to San Francisco weather. Summer is often times chilly with low hanging clouds. The best time to visit for sunny weather in the Florence area is in the Fall - September and October are fairly sunny.
What happens in the Summer is that the inland Willamette Valley heats up. Heat likes to suck in air from cooler areas. Where it usually comes from is the cold Pacific Ocean near Florence. This cold air moving towards the Valley creates a blanket of fog and low clouds that sometimes covers the town.
For the best storm watching go in November or December. Some of these storms can pack hurricane force winds when they slam into the Northwest coast. Running down the Dunes and jumping into Cleawox Lake.

Raincoats---you may need them, we did! Not exactly equipment, but If you are going here with a plan to do some photography, I would suggest you investigate what the best time of the year would be. We were here the first week in April and had flat, dull, gray skies the complete time.

Devil's Elbow

Sounds like it could be a pretty creepy place, but it's really not. It's actually a pretty cool little place. At one end, there's a stream that feeds into the ocean and at the other, some nice rock formations, good for playing on and for tidepools. It's also right below Heceta Head Lighthouse, which you can walk up to.
