Suburban to Rural to Wilderness
Once a small commercial center for the farms around it, Hillsboro has become a residential center and commercial center for a number of high-tech companies. In many ways, it is now a typical suburban community.
Thankfully, parts of Hillsboro's once rural character have been maintained. Perhaps the best example of this is the Jackson Bottom Wetlands, which is a wildlife preserve immediately south of downtown Hillsboro. Here, you can see a number of local and migratory wildlife still going about their business. In some cases it is still possible to catch glimpses of surrounding scenery as well, such as the coast range and Mt. Hood.
