Terrific service, but no more/less than a BW (sans the breakfast)
Stayed this past weekend (6/8) and typically patronize BW chain for price. For the price (which wasn't inexpensive this time of year), was disappointed by the chain's lack of amenities and comfort. Mattresses are getting worn, as are carpets & restrooms in the rooms. Things you take for granted (luggage racks) now require a call to the front desk or are not necessarily included (continental breakfast). Service here is terrific, view incredible (pay the extra $35 or so for a river view). Ask for the first level in the older wing for a private patio to enjoy that view. Newer wing all have patios/balconies, I understand. We were satisfied, but are beginning to look askance at the chain. :[
Loved the river view
Outstanding location and river views. Older hotel that is very well maintained. Breakfast dining was a bit of a mess. Food was not promptly served and most of the hot items were cool. But the river view IS great. Very comfortable bed.
Relaxing stay with a great view
Very pleasant, received a room upgrade to a riverfront room with small outside deck. Lovely view, very comfortable room, well worth the few extra dollars for riverfront accomadation. Free breakfast voucher was a pleasant surprise. Don't miss the tasty food in the dining room, choose a table near a window for a great view or dine on the deck.
Stretched to the Limit
This is an ordinary hotel located in an extraordinary area.
The hotel was fully booked the weekend we were there; and the staff was stretched to the limit. One day we went out --putting our "please service now" flag on the door-- at 10 AM; at 4 PM our room had not yet been serviced. We found a maid, and she gave us fresh towels.
As I worked from the hotel's lobby public comptuers, I heard several conversations where various guests indicated their dissatisfaction.
The views of the river are well worth the extra charge. And the rooms, with their balconies, were more than acceptable.
My one "quibble" was the "free" breakfast: it did not include coffee/tea and/or juice and gave only three options. By the time these expensive items were added, the cost --and, of course, one was expected to add a tip based on the "total value" of the meal-- was equal to what one would have expected to have paid under normal circumstances.
Would we stay there again? Probably, but only if we couldn't find a better choice.
Nice hotel with great views. Easy drive into Hood River for shopping, brew pubs, etc. The hotel is right on the river with great views and a hiking path. Nice restaurant with a deck on the river. The dinner was very good. Breakfast that came with the room was good as well. We would definetly stay here again.
Great Find with serene river views
My husband and I stayed at the Hood River Inn on September 5th. Our room was furnished with older furniture but had a great view of the river! From our window, we noticed a walking path by the river but we were too tired to try it. We especially enjoyed our breakfast at the hotel restaurant. We were seated outside on the deck that overlooked the river. We received a hot, complimentary breakfast and only had to pay for our drinks. Overall, this hotel was ideally priced for the location to nearby restaurants and the river.
Good value but don't have dinner!
We stayed at the Best Western Hood River Inn for a couple of nights in September 2007. We chose it because of the riverside location and the good parking, as we understood parking is something of a problem in Hood River itself.
The hotel was perfectly satisfactory for the rate we paid, 107 dollars per night midweek seniors rate. We enjoyed our small balcony with river view, and slept well in spite of the proximity of the bridge and the distant hooting of trains.
Breakfast vouchers made the hotel even better value, with admittedly limited choice from the menu. Coffee was included though, and we paid extra for orange juice. Breakfast was just fine.
The Riverview Grill, the hotel restaurant, has a very pleasant outside terrace adjacent to the river, and a nice ambiance inside too. Unfortunately the food at dinner was mediocre to poor. Don't eat there except for breakfast.
Hood River restaurants are a ten to fifteen minute walk away along a riverside path which is fine during the day. As it goes under a couple of apparently unlit underpasses we hesitated to walk along there after dark, but you can drive in less than five minutes and hopefully park on a meter.
Overall a decent good value hotel which seems to need a new chef!
Pleasant with a few hiccups
Had reservation for a riverfront, non-smoking room and got the riverfront part. View was very nice but could hear train across the river. A/C was a wall unit and when on, the room smelled like smoke. When I complained, was told all rooms are non-smoking although room numbers were still designated smoking/non-smoking. All my clothes smelled like smoke when I got home.
Bed and pillows lumpy but good showerhead. Could have nicer toilitries given all the local natural beauty products from OR. Check in and check out very fast, good parking, and nice restaurant with beautiful deck seating and bar (w/good live music Sat. night). Location is driving distance to downtown Hood River, walkway along the river and Starbucks across the street! Staff nice but not overly friendly.
I would love to give this hotel a glowing review, but I can't. The location is excellent and the view of the Columbia River is awesome, but, the hotel is old and rundown. The furniture is overstuffed and uncomfortable. We had a one bedroom suite and the room layout was good. The walls must be paper thin, as there was a lot of noise from the hallways and adjacent rooms.
The hotel restuarant was enjoyable, with an outside dining area overlooking the river and there was free internet access in the lobby.
On a scale of 1 - 10, I would rate this hotel a 3 or 4 and I would not stay here again. Too bad, because of the excellent location and killer river views.
