I found the Monument Motel while visiting John Day Fossil Beds region. It's located on the north fork of the John Day River on the edge of the small town of Monument. It's a fairly small motel -- I think there were 4 kitchenette rooms, and about 6 regular motel rooms. I stayed in the regular motel room. It was small, but very clean and quiet. There's a covered porch that runs along the outside of the building. Nice views of the surrounding scenery. There's a small RV area behind the motel. Rates were reasonable, but I can't remember how exactly how much (this was in Oct. 2006). Hospitality was excellent -- definitely one of the nicest things about this place was the friendly owner who made me feel at home. There's a laundromat at one end of the motel. There don't seem to be many motels in the John Day Fossil Bed region. Of those that I know of, this is about the nicest.
