This charmer a town, just outside Manzanita, is really worth a trip to the coast all its own. And then Old Wheeler is like Wheeler's charm in overdrive. Wow.
It's nicknamed the "Westin-Benson of the Oregon Coast" - and for good reason. Simply stunning all the way through. The claw-foot bathtubs in some of the rooms are only part of the gooey, lovey-dovey vibe run rampant.
The owner's dad used to be a Hollywood screenwriter (forgot what major movie he was involved in...a biggie though), so they've got quite the thing for movies. You get free movies and popcorn, along with your bay view.
I can't recommend a place more strongly.
Beauty resonates and oozes from this place, with a soothing color scheme, a bay view from every room, hard wood floors and a classical décor that's warm, inviting and imparts luxury.
The best of modern conveniences - and a few surprises - are available. The common room has a microwave and Internet access. The piano room/lobby section is decked out in a lush red, stuffed with comfy couches and contains a nifty hammock-like seat. And each room has a vibrant charm to it that's the result of a myriad of nice little details - from the bed spreads and the art on the walls, to the light fixtures and the stuffed animal you may find on your bed. There's also a masseuse in residence there. Call ahead for reserving her services.
