Oregon Wineries
by aquatic
I am going to stay in McMinnville, Oregon for 3 days. This is when I plan to visit some wineries around. But there are so many that it's hard to choose... I am interested in particular in good Pinot Noir or Cab Frank. Commercial wineries that are more oriented on making money don't interest me.
Any suggestions? Which wineries are the best to fit in that time? And maybe if it is possible to tell which of them has nice location with a good view?
Also on my way to Roseburg I will pass Salem and Eugene: any good wineries there?
Any info would be appreciated.

We just visited Chateau Lorane a few days ago, very cool place with MANY different wines to choose from, no vineyards tho. The tasting room is situated on a small lake, very pretty. We enjoyed the dessert wines here, the Apricot and the Raspbery were very good as is the Marechal Foch and the Malbec. There is no tasting fee and there are about a dozen wines to choose from to taste.
I would also not miss King Estate, about 5 minutes from Chateau Lorane. We stayed here for 2 hours, relaxing with lunch and wine tasting. Spectacular views from the outdoor terrace area, food is right up there with Napa Valley and amazing wines. Cheers! :)
Travel Tips for McMinnville
P-40
by SteveOSF
An American P-40 is displayed at the Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum. P-40s were the standard United States Army Air Corps fighter at the beginning of the Second World War. The P-40 was used in almost every theater of action. It was even used by the American Volunteer Group in China known as the Flying Tigers. The museum's aircraft bears the paint scheme of the Flying Tigers.
The P-40 was virtually obsolete at the outbreak of the war, yet it was what was available. It was usually outperformed by opposing fighters. However, the airplane was rugged. It became regarded as the best of the second best.
Where the Spruce Goose Nests

"Small Town, Big Plane"
On a road trip to Portland, we took a brief detour to McMinnville, Oregon. Although it is situated in the heart of the Willamette Valley wine country, we came to see historic airplanes. One plane in particular was of interest, Howard Hughes' "Spruce Goose." This piece of history has found its way to this small Oregon town. It resides within the Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum along with many other interesting aircraft. After visiting the museum, we were short on time and had to forego wine tasting. But the aviation museum was well worth the visit and wine tasting in the Willamette Valley will have to wait for another day.
