Day trip to Waterfalls near Portland, OR
by heywinks
Is it possible to see Bridal Veil Falls, Multnomah Falls, Oneonta Falls, AND Ramona Falls all in one day, or is that too ambitious?

From Portland you can get to BVF, MF and OF, no problem, but RF is too far out of the way unless you're already at your first stop at sunrise, and don't mind a full day of driving in a big loop around the Mt. Hood Nat'l. Forest.

Should we skip Ramona Falls then? It looks so pretty in the pictures. I know it's quite a hike to get up to see the Falls though - unless I'm wrong and we can see it from the road??

If you just have one day, it seems to me you would be better off staying in the Columbia River gorge. There are several hundred falls in the gorge besides Bridal Veil, Multnomah and Oneonta.
If you have more than one day, it would be good to make the loop around Mt. Hood and stop at Ramona Falls and the many other sights that are in that area (including a few other waterfalls, such as Umbrella Falls).
If you have time for a third day trip out of Portland, take a look at Silver Falls.
I've done the loop you want in a day, but it's pretty tiring and you'll miss a lot.
Travel Tips for Portland
The Pacific Northwest Has It All!
by airnolin
If you're looking for all kinds of scenery, outdoor activites, and mulit-ethnic cultures, visit Portland and other cities in the Pacific Northwest. There are rivers, mountains, deserts, farmland, forests--even a rain forest, hotsprings, and of course the Pacific Ocean. A million things to see, do, and eat!
View Over the City
by Geoff_Wright
Here's a great view of the City of Portland, taken from Vista Avenue, up to the Southwest of the city. Somewhere to the left is Mount St Helen's (Washington State), which blew its top in 1980 (See Mount St Helen's Page - to follow), and to the right is Oregon's own Mount Hood. Unfortunately, it's not possible to detect either Mountain in this smaller photo.
Portland Rose Festival Queen Ceremony
by Geoff_Wright
How fortunate Phil and I were to be at the Portland International Rose Test Gardens to witness Franklin High School's Ambassador, Priscilla Isaacs being crowned the 2003 Portland Rose Festival Queen on Thursday, May 29th at the Fred Meyer (of the Supermarket fame!) Queen's Coronation.
The Queen represents Portland and the Rose Festival in appearances throughout the country and abroad for one year. When choosing the Queen, judges consider each Court Member's leadership and scholastic achievement, school activities, civic involvement, volunteer projects, communication skills and overall impressions.
The Rose Festival began in 1907, but from 1908 to 1913 the Rose Festival didn't name a Queen, opting instead for 'Rex Oregonus', a masked king, chosen each year from the business community. In 1918 the end of World War 1 kept the city from holding a Rose Festival at all. And in 1926 there was no queen chosen because there was no Rose Festival that year. Queens were chosen from area high schools from 1931 as a way to revive the debt-ridden festival, and they have been chosen from high schools ever since.
The Scottish Highland Games...
by TashieKitten
The Scottish Highland Games appear every summer at Mt. Hood Community College. I plan on going this year (for the 2nd time) to watch traditional dances, pipe and drum bands and athletics. http://www.phga.org
Ride/Bring Your Bicycle
by knobbytirerider
If your in Portland Or and you don't ride a bike, you are certainly missing out. Portland is one of the major bike capitals of country. There are bike lanes everywhere, and if you are a more serious rider you can explore Forest Park (one of the biggest urban parks anywhere.) if you are even more serious, take your skinny tire'd bike for a few laps up on Skyline Dr. On your way back into town be sure to stop in any of the amazing coffee houses for some of the best brews.
Questions and Answers
Q: Public transportation "Coming to Portland next week. is there an easy way to go the coast for a day trip via public trans?
Cheers
NYTim"
A: "The closest coastal town to Portland is Tillamook (not quite on the coast, but close), which is connected by a bus from Downtown Portland and offers another bus..."
