RR: ~ Explicit to/from directions are located on my home/Portland page. Easy as falling off a timber carnival log.

Maybe I'm too late in answering...take red line MAX train (light rail) from airport (buy ticket prior to boarding train) and ride it all the way to down town portland...no transfer. Get off on 6th and Morrison (roughly). Take northbound bus to Union station (ask bus drivers, they're very helpful)

Travel Tips for Portland

There are 2 Golf courses in...

by pargolfer

There are 2 Golf courses in Portland you must play. #1 is Pumpkin Ridge. This has been the site of the amateur championship for both women and men several times. There are 2 courses here, Ghost and Witch. Both are spectacular and Links style. Awesome challenge and definately one of the top 100 courses in the US.
THe other course to play is Persimmon. The course is set in a fertile valley flanked by forest and Mt Hood (Volcano) as a backdrop. Championship layout with forgiving fairways but tight greens surrounded by water and marsh. Semi Private with a few tee times available every day for the public. Well worth the time to get on.

Fit city

by TashieKitten

This is one of the fittest cities in America; try going for a walk or a jog downtown, around Waterfront Park, over the Hawthorne bridge and across the Eastside Esplanade and circle back over the Steele Bridge. It's only about 3 miles and lots of fun. Lots of people to see too, especially if the sun is out. Good views of the city too, from the top deck of the Steele Bridge. I miss the clean air if I have to work out inside!

Rhododendrons

by glabah

Rhododendrons grow wild in the Cascade mountains. Naturally, Portland would be well suited for many of the domestic varieties. So, despite the fact that the flowers usually don't last long, this is a very popular plant in many yards in Portland. They are easy to maintain in this climate (plant them in the ground and ignore them for the most part) and provide cover all year long.

You will notice that sometimes the rhodies here get confused. One of the ones I have in my yard had one blossom that opened in June - way too late in the year for normal flowers from these plants. Furthermore, sometimes some of the plants will do a very light blossoming in fall.

Aside of being used to decorate many Portland yards, gardens and parks, there is also a Portland Rhododendron Garden that is a really nice place to visit during the peak season.

NBA Basketball

by archan4698

Portland has a Pro Basketball team, the Portland Trailblazers. They play in the western conference of the NBA. Chances are they will get to the playoffs and lose to LA, just like the past 2-3 years.

They play in the rose garden, easily traveled to from downtown. Just get on the eastern Max line, and get off at the "Rose Center".

The Oregon Brewfest - last full weekend in July

by Shaft28

When in Portland, you must have some beer. No one does it better. So Portland is the 2nd largest micro brew city in the world, how come our beer festival is managed by amatuers.
Don't get me wrong, I love it and have a great time. The beer is outstanding, but for what you get the price is a bit outrageous.
The fact it was so unorganized and basically cardboard tables with kegs running through coolers bothered me, until by 8th sampling. Then is all went away...
Food could be a wider selection, but no one seems to have thought of that yet.
Beer I give a 10, organization I give a 4.
Still worth a pop in.

7/28 Just went - same lame organization which causes the occasional warm beer. Selection still outstanding of brews and weak for food. Better than last year. I'd suggest no kids though - got smacked around by toddlers in drunk daddy backpacks!
